Additionally I don't watch the old stuff anymore because I watched it too often back then :P Occassionally I watch something old again to refresh my memory, but then it rests in peace for months or years again.

That is exactly the case with me, I wore them out back then, I was was like "THESE ARE THE BEST AMVS EVER!"

Now when I think of them I still go "Yeah those were good, let me watch them again" then I do and I'm like ".....hmm....seemed better back then..."

I have seen plenty of "zOMG AWESOME" videos that I don't give a damn about because they do not make any emotional impact on me. So it all depends. Plenty of old videos that many here might deem crap now (but were "good" when they came out) appeal to me still because of the emotion involved.

My favorite video is, and has remained, I Can't Move On by ErMaC, which is pretty bad quality by today's standards.
I'm glad somebody besides myself still exists that doesn't go "ZOMG SUBTITLES! INSTA-HATE!"

Anyway, I was saying the same thing as you, just... Worse. >_<

I can't remember my first amv but I remember several videos from around that time. A lot of them are still in my top 20. Some of them are in my top 10. I really don't care if the quality is bad compared to today's standards because they were made yesterday. I remember that and I can enjoy a lot of them just as much as I did back then. They remain classics to me because back then I watched them continuously and when I break them out from the old pile they still bring back all of those good memories. If it made me sappy, want to shake my butt, rock out, or get absorbed into the video then I re-live it.

In all honesty though, I am finding lately that newer videos aren't having that same kind of impact on me. Whether it is because I am more critical or if they lack that certain spark I'll never know.

Well said. I do like many new videos and their great video quality and editing, but the old ones, the ones I saw first, have an emotional feel that many new ones seem to lack.
Where did you say I'm going?.... And what am I doing in a handbasket?

After accidentally finding a couple by Jessmaster, I went on an actual search, and the first stuff I saw was mainly by Vicbond, DokiDoki and Kevin Caldwell. So.. yeah, the first videos that I saw are still pretty good in my mind.

I still have the Ranma 1/2 baka video on hand, for the occasional AMV-thon

Sure, I still like a few of the first videos I ever saw (including Behind The Pirate: Captain Hampton and A Thousand Miles). The rest of my early exposure to AMVs was mostly in the form of aluminum and dokidoki's videos, which also hold up well to the test of time. Guess I was fortunate to have videos like these as my earliest memories of the hobby.

Lower tastes? Hell no. I still love the old stuff, and I prefer stuff done in that style, if maybe with a little tighter sync.
