Getting spam ops deleted - guidelines?

Post by SarahtheBoring » Fri Dec 17, 2004 7:38 am

OK, situation:

I've gotten a few spam/joke opinions over time, and it's starting to annoy the hell out of me. Can we request to have those deleted too, or are the admins busy enough with deleting negative opinions that I shouldn't bother them with that?

They're all like "LOLOLO BEST AMV EVAR!!!!!!1 10 10 10 10 10 10 10". Which I assume most people keep because it bumps their ratings up, but it annoys me just as much as all-1 opinions do. They're stupid and skew the results; I know the highest and lowest are thrown out, but I'd rather have it all based on people's honest opinions and not on the whims of some dumbass who thinks he's funny.

Also, uh, I can't find the link to request op deletions at all, so any help with that is appreciated too.

Thanks.

Unfortunately, there are no features that will let you delete ops yourself,
so I think chances would be best hitting up an admin/mod(I don't know whether moderators have power over this) over PM or the Moderator Box.

Meh. I knew you couldn't delete them yourself - that's not what I asked - but if I have to bother them personally then it's not worth the hassle to 'em.

Okay then, thanks!

Yeah, it's done on a op-by-op personal basis. And with the wait to get rid of really nasty flames, I don't think they'd be in a hurry to delete spam reviews.

Sounds like you have a new stalker, though...maybe you can try PM'ing or emailing the person and explaining how you'd score videos in reviews. Of course, that might make it worse if it really *is* a stalker... o.O

But your original question - if you think a review is a joke, I don't see why you couldn't ask for it to be deleted. Just be sure to give your reasons - why it's as insulting as any "this vid suxorss!!!1!1" review.

Neh, turns out this one is just amazingly clueless and has no taste in AMVs. *pats ubernewb on the head* I linked them to some better videos, so hopefully it's just a newbie lapse in judgment and there'll be no problem. I think they mostly wanted some tips on technical stuff... blind leading the blind, but I have no problem trying.

Anyway, over time I've gotten a few all-10s, and it gets pretty stupid. I mean, really. I thought there was some sort of system, like "put this op into the queue for moderation," but it's no big deal. I hate to let my scores be inflated, but I guess everybody knows about brainless fanboy-style reviews and the damage they wreak on the system.

No problem, AMVfreak. It was kind of an odd question. :)

Better just to let straight 10 reviews be assimilated into the overall average.

Or you could take your route, and flaunt about achieving straight 10s. But of course, a video of *yours* couldn't possibly deserve straight 10s, so everyone best watch it and appraise it themselves. Or, since according to you, they aren't allowed to have a positive opinion of your video, any member reporting over a 7.5 average for any of your videos should promptly be banned on the principle of bad taste and all videos of theirs be lowered by at least three points.

Maybe that would solve it?

-_- Dude, if one of my craptacular videos gets straight 10s, then obviously everybody's gotten them at some point. They're fanboy reviews, like "OMG ROXOR!!" I've heard of them before.

They're not real scores, they're not real reviews. If I were ruler of the world I'd require that any all-10 or all-1 review have a very long explanation to justify such an extreme rating, but that's restrictive and hard to code and I'm not the ruler of the world anyway evidenced by the fact that the Smiths are still broken up and I have to do my own laundry.
But of course, a video of *yours* couldn't possibly deserve straight 10s, so everyone best watch it and appraise it themselves.
This isn't like me at all; if you're gonna bash, bash specifically. 'Sides, I never said which video it was, now did I.

They're allowed; they'd just show their complete lack of taste. Oh, you did say that. I wouldn't take it out on their scores regardless. I just see all-10s on a bad video to be about the same as all-1s on a good video. Do you bitch when people want all-1s "OMG U SUXOR" reviews deleted?

Look, I don't think it's a bad thing that I'm realistic and don't go around wanking about how I'm the badass editor to end all editors. Maybe you do, maybe you'd rather I play the whole game of cock-measuring that seems to define too many people here. I'd rather not. I'd rather keep my perspective in place, thank you.

This was a stupid but civil thread until you decided to start slinging accusations, Flint. I'd not like to fight with you, but I don't think your accusations are fair.

Maybe if reviews have a "Mark for Moderation" Button like on GameFAQs.com then have someone in the higharc look at it to see if you're justified as a SPAM review.

Just a thought.

Sounds like someone just volunteered to read through tons of opinions! :o

Seriously, think about the workload you're asking for before asking for crazy things. I've left all 10 ops in my new to site days and I still stand by any of them. Dangit.
