Really? It looks like the middle of the year is best time to get nominations. There were as many vids done in May as there were in January or December, but far more nominations.

Next up would be September, which is good for those "I recall that vid because I downloaded it recently" - without getting the December "I don't know that vid, did it come out recently?" problem.

Between January and December, I'd say early December is good for the "fresh in viewers' minds" vote, while January might have those "Oh, first great vid for the new year" viewers who remember the video right to the end of the season. Of the two, I'd vote early in December, or early in January. Late December is a bust (too late for people to download) and late January misses that "first great vid of the year" status.

I don't think it's a coincidence that that's the same month as Anime Weekend Atlanta. :)

Interesting about May, though; that's before most of the big cons of the summer. Hmmmm.

I suspect there is a really popular video that came out in May causing that. I haven't checked (nor do I intend to, at least not until the VCA is over)

May and September are outliers --- I suspect strongly that if I repeated that for last year's VCA, I'd see different spikes. September could be AWA, but then where is Otakon, etc.?

I agree with Scin in that May and September can't be coincidences. As most people realize September is AWA, given it's late AWA, but look at the announcement forums, almost all the creators release their vids a few days after.

As for May, although the summer cons are mainly in June July, I believe A-Kon, Anime Central, Fanime and Anime North were all in May. Three of those cons have 8000+ people in attedence and as a few of you have pointed out, three big videos premiered in May. I imagine a large % of those nominations were to just three videos.

Interesting stuff though dero :).

It's interesting how a few very popular videos can skew the numbers of an entire group, thanks for the interesting stats dero.

However, I must throw in a cautionary note. I have a video that has been nominated for 4 categories in this years VCA's. It was not uploaded till early January, 2005. Granted it premired at AWA pro, and the Instrumentality group saw it, but still...

There is only one statistic that really counts and that is the percent chance of someone nominating your video, given that they have seen it. If your video is only seen by 15-20 people, but they all nominate it, well, you probly have yourself a semi finnalist. (NOTE: I have no idea how many nominations it takes, and I'm sure it varies quite a bit by category.)
