Fall of an Empire..

Post by Emong » Fri Aug 10, 2007 11:17 am

I FINALLY got this finished after hours and hours of editing >_> But it all came to a conclusion in the end. This has to be my biggest project yet, and propably the one I'm the most happy with ^^

Yeap, it deffinitely falls into the category of concept videos. Although, I'd emphasize its story-telling methods and concepts rather than its technical aspects. Don't get me wrong though, it HAS effects, and quite lots.

I suggest reading the video description (or at least the first half of it) since the story and the themes behind this vid are a bit abstract.. Plus, you'll get a lot more out of it, or so I hope ;)

Enjoy!

uh, yeah.. the file size is embarassing..

Ooh, Loveless

/gets

Edit: Overall I liked it. Few things

The expanding circles got old and annoying real fast. I'm thankful you didn't continue using them the 2nd half of this.

The moving bar things got slightly overused, though this didn't bother me nearly as much as those circles.

I didn't really care for the music (ya, personal thing, heh)

Also, I don't quite see how the title of this connects. I don't really see how it is a metaphor for human relationships. But then, I'm not exactly a deep person, so that's not too surprising.

Again, I still liked this overall, 4/5

nice work, I really enjoyed the more surreal part of this video. you really pulled off the right atmosphere there.

there's one thing I don't quite agree on though and that's that you're saying in the video comments that Loveless would go perfect with the concept of the song and I don't really feel that way. Loveless is a drama involving a lot of single human relationships, while the song gives of a more epic general concept and so it was first pretty weird for me to adapt to seeing Loveless scenes to that music.

But still very nice video overall

Thanks for your comment.

Yes, the concept propably seems a bit weird, but I'm a sucker for those kind of story-telling methods. But I get what you mean =) Personally, I honestly can't think of a better combo (my taste of music and movies being what it is..) but I'm a bit worried I actually might be the only one who actually thinks of that concept as a great idea..

Just gotta get this out of my system: the lead singer in Radiohead does not enunciate his words worth a shit, so I can't understand most of what's being said in this song. That thought has no consequence on your video, though.

However, even with the lyrics provided, I'm not seeing much of a connection to Loveless. This does affect what I think of your video.

The quick and dirty of it is that I think your video had too much of a focus on effects and pretty scenes than it did any kind of story. This isn't bad in itself. Eyecandy is nice, and you had great beat sync to support that. It just didn't have any substance to hold it up - and that may be just me. I'm sure other people see the connection, and certainly you do, or else you wouldn't have picked the song.

Overall, I enjoyed your video, but it's not really something I'd be watching a lot.

I really enjoyed wathing this video. Really chilly mood.

I thought The TV simulator is a horrible effect though, no matter how you use it :(

Oh yeah, when I gave out the betas, most of my beta-testers complained about the circles too. I thought it would be a great idea, but now I just see them very tacky. Didn't know how to replace them for the final product, so they're still there.. Anyways, this has taught me this should be the first and the last time I'll be using them.. And don't worry if you don't see the connection between the video and the concept. It's kind of pretentious anyway :P
