This is my first music video done on my own, I had only done one before this as a joint project with a friend of mine. This video was a very personal project on a few different levels and I felt inspired to do it. I actually debated for quite some time on whether or not I was going to send it to a con because of its personal significance. You'll see that I have a dedication at the end of the video to a certain someone, a good friend of mine who helped inspire me to create this. She's one hell of an unbelievebly talented artist, and I won't be the least bit suprised if she makes a name for herself within the animation industry. So in return for her many artistic contributions to myself, this is my contribution to her. I also dedicated it to all RK fans who were touched by the series.
The idea for the video came about after hearing the song a few times and the words almost immediately made me think of Kaoru. The moment where Kenshin leaves Kaoru in the beginning of the second season was always a very emotional scene for me. So I basically had one objective in the video, to capture the emotional power of that scene. I wasn't neccessarily trying to tell the story of Kenshin and Kaoru, but rather present an idea which could stand on its own, without the need of the viewer to know who the characters are. I think I fell a little short of that though, I think you still have to see RK to fully understand the video. My goal was to make the viewer...feel, thats it, feel the emotions of love and loss I was presenting. I felt if I couldn't do that, then I've failed.
I also liked the idea of centering the video around Kaoru, I hadn't seen many that were. Most of the RK videos I've seen have all been action and my original thought was, "I'm going to make an RK video with absoultely no action, and make it interesting." But as I got to creating the video, I realized putting in a few action sequences enhanced the emotion. But I had no real plan for the video when I started, the only thing I knew was what I wanted it to feel like, so thats the way it turned out and I think I did a reasonbly good job of reaching my goal (if I didn't you wouldn't see it on here). This video took me a long time to complete because I was trying to get things just right. There are still a few things I don't like but I had to stop at some point.
After thinking about it for a while, and from the influence of a few of my friends, I decided to send it to Otakon because they really seem to be organized with their music video competiton. To my suprise, it actually made it into the finals competition!
* I didn't win at Otakon but I think it was fairly well recieved.
