Okay, since I tend to be long on the technical explanatons and short on the artistic side of things, let's try this comment again! This is a very short video, running barely more than a minute and a half, but once you see it, the length will hopefully make sense. There's no story beyond the game's own story, and the character exploration is focused on a quick and very sardonic fever-nightmare glimpse of what James finds in Silent Hill. It's a strange project, a spontanious, seemingly simple idea that ended up taking more than a month to pull together.
The song is actually a project in itself: it's a remixed combination of two different versions of "In Heaven." The original song is performed by "the lady in the radiator" in David Lynch's movie "Eraserhead," and it can be found on the film's soundtrack. The other version is a cover by the Pixies, who often perform their own rendition of "In Heaven" at concerts, and it's available on their Complete B-Sides album (and individual concert tapes).
The video was created using a combination of VirtualDub, AviSynth, Windows Movie Maker 2.0 (reencoded through WMM 1.0 to correct the same pesky codec conflict as last time), a registered version of Fraps 2.5.1, and the PC version of Silent Hill 2. The audio was remixed through a combination of Goldwave and Creative Wave Studio.
The image may look somewhat grainy, but that's due not to the quality so much as Silent Hill's own "noise effect" filter. Without that filter, the game looks so glossy and computer-generated that using the "noisy" footage seemed to fit the tone of the video better.
I've never been one for special effects: in this video, a few shots were changed to letterbox format, there are a couple of fades, and a single shot has been reversed from left to right (I challenge diehard Silent Hill fans to figure out which one!).
So onto the video!
