"Sakura no Yume", or "Dream of Sakura" roughly translated, is essentially what the title suggests. It seems Sakura has fallen asleep in the shade of a summer afternoon and has drifted off to dreamland.

The idea for this video came to me while listening to "Yasashisa no Tane", one of Tomoyo's character songs from the Cardcaptor Sakura soundtrack. It's a quiet, peaceful song, and I envisioned Sakura doing peaceful things. After mulling over the lyrics for awhile, I noticed the dreamlike imagery hidden in the prose. With a loose framework guiding me, I began editing, letting the story develop as work progressed.

The video is relatively slow-paced. You won't see any cards being captured, and you won't see any flashy action sequences. However, there's still plenty of content to hold one's attention. Cardcaptor Sakura is a series stocked with metaphors and symbolism, and this video reflects that. The story within is handcrafted and original...I had some fun and played around with the source to build something new and self-contained.

That's the best description I can provide. Don't worry, it's not quite as abstract as it sounds. All in all, it's a quiet, lovely video for a, at times, quiet, lovely series.

Things to watch for, both technical and storywise (if you're interested):

Watch for the shadows cast by passing clouds in the introductory sequence...this was not in the original footage, and was added as a subtle effect.

Each verse (after the introduction) is essentially a dream. The framework for the "dreamworld", so to speak, comes courtesy of the Glow Card. There's something to those glowing balls of light...

Remember what Sakura's name means (cherry blossom).

For those who haven't seen the series, the woman with greyish hair is Sakura's mother. The boy with greyish hair is a romantic interest (well, sort of).

Is Tomoyo singing the song as Sakura sleeps? I dunno...maybe she is, maybe she's not.

So, enjoy. Comments are very much appreciated. I had a lot of fun with this video and would love to hear from others who enjoyed it as well.

Total editing time was approximately 30 hours, spread over several days. Source footage is DVD (thank you Pioneer!). Editing was done with Premiere 6.0. MPEG encode done with TMPGEnc.
