  • Comments: I had a hard time coming up with a category for this video. Sure it's action and the music is Electronic/Instrumental, but it's really a homage to Battlestar Galactica.

When I started this project, I was trying to recreate the EXACT feel of the original Battlestar Galactica opening, trumpets and all. Then I found that the commercially available version of the music differs from the original TV show theme and it just didn't work. Then I found this GREAT electronic remix that has some original voice bites and sound effects.

Thus the idea to do a homage rather than a frame by frame remake of Battlestar Galactica using Vandread footage.

As far as Lip Syncing goes, there is only one spot I tried. It's towards the end when you hear Starbucks voice say "Let's go home." I did my best to Sync that to Meia. However, when you hear the Ceylons saying "By your command." I tried to show close up shots of the various "Bad Alien" robots. Some other sound effects are synched up to various goings on, but I don't want to ruin it for you.

If you haven't seen all of VanDread, there are some spoilers for the end of the series. You have been warned. However, like "Rebel Yell", if you haven't seen VanDread at all, maybe this vid will make you want to!

    Technical notes and whining:

    HP Pavillion a600n
    AMD Athlon 2.08ghz
    DVD ROM/CD R/W
DVD Decrypter and DVD2AVI for ripping
    Windows Movie Maker for editing

One thing I was attempting was to do the editing in WMM and then use Roxio Video Wave to compress it better. I could get a better looking video at a lower size, but the sound synching kept getting off. I'm thinking the problem might be a difference in frame rate between the two somehow with the source footage. I also plan to do a few things different in how I rip the footage next time in order to get even higher quality. This vid has decent to good quality vid, but I really am aspiring to "Holy MACKERAL!"

Anyhoo, if anybody has any hints on how to get better compression without buying a billion dollar program, I'm all ears! (In addition to the above I also have Pinnacle Studio 9 Quickstart).

    Hope you enjoy the video!
