****VCA 2005 SEMI-FINALIST!!!! Thank you to everyone who got it that far- it was completely unexpected to see any of our videos get that many nominations and make it that far. We sincerely appreciate every single individual vote that each one of you members put in for it. Thank you again!!!****
The main intent of this video and our selection of shows/series/movies was to show that "Love" is a very broad subject that has many, many definitions and is experienced differently by everyone. For some people it provides the will to survive, and for others the selfless act of sacrificing themselves not only for their love but their loved ones and for putting themselves into dangerous situations just because their love is so great. We tried to incorporate a large pallete of kinds of loves: the ex-lovers, the best friends, the human and their beloved animal companion, etc. etc. We originally had several more shows that were going to be featured in the video, but for fear of squishing too much different footage into the video and trying to make it all come together still, we instead narrowed it down to a few to sum it all up.
This was an unexpected video- one that originally started out as simply one scene set to music to test brand-new computer hardware we had just bought for our AMV- needs. However, some of the others in our group liked the one scene I threaded together so much, they suggested we make it into an entire video. So here it is- in all it's unexpected and experimental modesty.
This video was at some points, a bit of a challenge. It was our first "various" video where we had several different sources instead of just one movie or series. So at times it was hard to make sure we were giving every little instance it's own space to play out, but yet make sure it all came together as a whole with one message.
The ending credits are kind of unfortunate- because Premiere's "Pan" Effects are absolute crap, but it will have to do for now. The only way to get the credits to pass by without completely fuzzy and unreadable was to stretch out the length of time over which they played- giving the video longer credits than we would normally want. We'll be exploring different ways to establish ending credits in the near future.
****Some Notes on the Tsu-Ran Footage:
I've received a couple of questions about this particular show, as it is rather obscure and only recently was licensed on domestic DVD. For those wanting to know what it was about in relation to this video, here's just a quick run-down.
Basically, Ran is a female wandering samurai, and her lover and mentor, Junzabaro, who is the leading guard for a local dojo, has fallen in love with a Geisha. However, Junzabaro is an emotionally weak man, and has failed in his relationship with Ran, and is now failing in his relationship with the Geisha. He refuses to elope with the Geisha for he fears change, and the only security in his life is his job at the dojo, and both Ran and now the Geisha have suffered the consequences of his weak heart. Seeing his new Geisha lover pained by the situation, Ran challenges Junzabaro's dojo, where he is inevitably called to fend her off and uphold the Dojo's name and reputation. They spar, and Ran breaks his arm, making it impossible for him to continue living as a swordsman and freeing him from his obligation to the Dojo. Junzabaro and his Geisha lover finally elope, leaving behind Ran.
