Comments:
I've been holding on to this song since 2014 when we ALMOST used this for the Nan Desu Kan contest intro but ended up using something else for one reason or another. But I've still been holding on to it, regularly listening and wanting to edit to it.
It wasn't until last year when I watched "Welcome to the DCC" by TakeshiAMV and Kuroo that I was like "OK, yeah. I want to make that video." That video just really resonated and inspired me. It's slick without being endless transitions, it's got a ton of variety without relying on hyper obscure sources, and it's just fun. It kinda reminded me of old school dance videos that were just kinda there to glorify the anime and look neato. Like, that AMV has Yu Yu Hakusho in it. You don't use freakin' Yu Yu Hakusho without being a fan and that's so cool to me.
I had to teach myself how to do some new things for this video which was fun and challenging. I got to experiment and play based on some neat tutorials I found. I did a lot of testing and had a lot of failures/stuff I didn't even use. While those who know effects can identify this video as being pretty basic bitch I did screw around for around almost 4 months gathering sources, trying looks, trying different scenes, etc. I really, really wanted to make something cool. I had a bunch of fancy scene work planned and got deep into it but I actually opted to scale back and remove basically all of it. There was a real fear of turning things into visual clutter and I still wanted to make a video that felt like it was one of mine.
There are a lot of phenomenal videos out there with similar concepts, color schemes, palettes, etc. (Most of which I didn't see until I was like 90% done at which point I went "Fuck." lmao) but I dunno, man. I just wanted to try. I just really wanted to try.
