  "So look at me!"
  
  I wanted to try my hand at making an Asuka character profile, and I also wanted to try learning Final Cut Pro. This video is the result! My comments below spoil it a little bit, so I'd recommend watching the AMV before reading on if you can.
  
  This was a really fun project to work on, if difficult at times due to the creative choice I made to take the whole "turn your head" theme literally. (I spent the early phase of the project tagging clips with things like 'Shinji (side)' and 'Rei (back)'!) My hope is that I managed to capture a little bit of Asuka's loneliness and despair at trying everything in order to be noticed, and perhaps only succeeding in that goal once she's past the point of no return. I don't actually know whether anyone will consciously pick up on the fact that no other characters' faces are clearly shown until the very end (I guess excluding sketch!Kyoko but that kiiiinda doesn't count to me). Maybe it's more interesting if someone doesn't pick up on it but still feels a sense of isolation while watching? I don't know, I'm just curious about what reactions and interpretations people other than me would have to this AMV.
  
  'Evita!' is a song that feels quite contradictory to me - it seems provocative and flirty and angry and lonely all at once. When I listened to it after watching Evangelion for the second time, I thought it might make for an interesting project exploring different facets of Asuka. I did my best to make the video's style fairly "Eva-ish" as well, and I think I mostly succeeded.
