  • Comments: Warning: This is an extremely fast paced action video containing violent imagery and fan service. If you don't want to see lots of flashing and scene changes you probably should go watch something else.

    Video content notes

    1. Fan Service - This video contains numerous scenes from the Kill la Kill series involving fan service. The entire show is loaded with fan service. By the end of the final episode the entire cast is pretty much naked. While I did not actively seek out the use of clips containing fan service, most of the action sequences are filled with it. In some rare instances I actually removed some fan service by dropping a few specific frames (especially convenient when I needed a scene to be shorter).

    2. When developing the video I decided I wanted to use a metal song with a female vocalist. Exploring new bands was a great experience. I wanted the song to have some variety and hopefully not completely dominated by lyrics presented in the form of gargling gravel. This all relates back to why I have used Korn so often: the variety within a given song. The ups/downs of a song certainly help me with pacing (funny statement from me...). Knowing literally nothing about Butcher Babies, and a variety of other metal bands with female vocalists, I listened to completely new (to me) music for hours. After hearing a number of songs by Butcher Babies I decided "For The Fight" was going to fit well with Kill la Kill. Other bands had great music, but not necessarily what I wanted for this video. I researched the band a bit more and it turns out they are not strangers to fan service in their stage shows (at least initially).

    3. The introduction uses the end of the song "National Bloody Anthem" also by the Butcher Babies.

    4. The title of the video comes from researching sewing terms (as Kill la Kill has a lot of sewing related references). The subtitle on the video was going to be "Hooks and Eyes" as a play on the sewing term mixed with references to the hooks in the song lyrics and the number of times I use eye related zooms in the video. Before the video had a title it was simply MFAV, referring to my prior FAV video. When I create metal band my first album will be called Fabric and I'll just use the most sinister of sewing terms as song titles.

    5. It's an action-blast-o-rama. "Assault on your eyes." Unlike some of my prior action videos it doesn't have as many explosions. I should probably set an explosion quota. In the song there are numerous points where the lyric is "Fiiiiiight" and due to the feel of the song I generally let scenes stretch across it (and a couple beat hits). Initially, I had most of the "Fiiiiiight" sections matched with characters in the air making me jokingly think of the lyric as "Fllliiiiight" (plenty still remain). I avoided using any of the million-hits-per second kinds of fight scenes with arms+weapons flailing (sometimes comical/entertaining but not a good fit). There is one invert effect in the video and I didn't add it (this time)!

    Technical notes

Software used: Adobe Premiere 2023 and Adobe Photoshop

    - I used Photoshop to remove some lip flapping from about 3 scenes.

... if I think of anything else I will add it ...

Enjoy! ...if your eyes can handle it (and you like this type of video).
