  • Comments: Million Miles Away was an idea that I had for some time.

Ever since some of Voices of a Distant Star on college-run public access TV (I'm not kidding here), there was a part of me that wanted to use this for an AMV source. Around 2014, through me being a regular follower of the awards season leading up to the Oscars, I learned about The Moon Song from the film Her (one song that should have won the Oscar instead of Let It Go IMO). Between the theme of the song (being far away from a loved one) and comparing the singer being on the moon to Mikako traveling lights years to battle an alien army, I really felt that this would make a good pairing.

What finally got me to work on this video was the COVID pandemic and the safety measures that needed to be done to prevent infections. Spending months at home with my parents wasn't a big issue for me, as I had plenty of things to keep me busy (my anime and video game hobbies, being able to do my work at home, studying to get my A+ certification). However, there's still a lot of things that I miss, whether it's my usual trips to conventions or being able to celebrate birthdays and holidays with the rest of my family. At the same time, I knew that not only that a lot of other people are facing the similar situation, but there's others (being be people in a long-distance relationship or families where work situations can cause a spouse/parent to not be able to live with the rest of the family) where the scenario can be a lot worse. To me, it reminded me a lot of the situation that Noboru and Mikako had in terms of their relationship. Thus, I felt that this needed to be one of the videos that I had to do for the 2020 AWA Pro Contest.

For those who originally watched the video in the Pro screeners: once I got the initial complaints about the technical issues that it was having (that's what happens when you considered something finished while working on other projects for AWA), I went back and, realizing that it had to do with me using the wrong frames per second setting (I blame it on the source I was using to get clips for the video listing the frame rate as 24fps instead of the intended 30fps), I fixed the problem ASAP, although the whole anonymous nature of Pro made it hard for me to get the corrected version out without revealing that I made it.
