  The Anime: Simoun is known for being a really good yuri anime. There’s a lot of good drama and fun characters, with a story that highlights the juxtaposition between the calm, privileged lives of the young protagonists and the brutality of a war that they’re forced to fight – using powerful, mysterious aircraft known as Simouns.
  
  The Music: Motoi Sakuraba is one of my favorite composers, especially his work from around the turn of the century. Resolusion ~ Pure a stream (‘resolution’ is misspelled on the CD case) comes from his rather impressive Arrange Album for Star Ocean: The Second Story. It’s actually a combination of two tracks from the original game, rearranged and fully orchestrated.
  
  The Video: Corona Gem is kind of like a slide show of beautiful images. I really like Simoun’s visual style and I had a lot of fun combining different clips to make them look pretty while matching the feel of the music. I like how the slower pacing of the music (especially in the first half) makes it easy for your eyes to linger on the images and soak in the details.
  
  There is no story per se; the music is like a canvas on which I painted the moving images, capturing the way each sound and phrase made me feel.
  
  Fun Fact: I edited most of the video back around 2012-2015, which is when I gave the video its name (meant to reference the sun’s corona). I considered changing it because of the coronavirus, but in the end I liked the title a little too much. If you like, you could say the video itself is like a “gem” that emerged in the middle of this crisis, reminding all of us that there are still beautiful things in the world. :)
