It wasn't long ago but I don't remember exactly how this came together, other than beginning with a desire to make an AMV with this song. There's nothing terribly unusual about that, but it seems to be a less common starting point than having an anime source in mind and then trying to find the right music to pair it with. Perhaps neither approach is right or wrong, but I get the feeling that beginning a project with the visual component in mind, first and foremost, is conducive to AMVs that actually resonate with viewers rather than just satisfying a personal vision. I haven't thought this through enough to say more about it for now, but I think I knew from the beginning that this was going to be one of those weird little AMVs that I was making "for myself" rather than something bigger and more appealing to a general audience. (I say this as if I could edit a video that would actually do this but simply choose not to--no, there are simply AMVs where I sincerely think there's a chance that it's going to resonate with a general AMV viewer, and those where I know from the beginning that it's not. In no case do I ever think that it's definitely going to happen.)

Nevertheless, after finishing this I submitted it into an AMV contest, which was probably a dumb idea given how those things pervert my humble ambitions and usually lead to disappointment. This didn't win any awards, but I got a nice comment on it from someone on YouTube who saw it in a contest viewing, so I guess it was worth it. Once again, this is not a Contest AMV, and I think I knew that all along.

I made it a point not to use any of the "weird" scenes from Alien Nine here. If you've seen the OVA, maybe you know what I'm talking about. There was a certain kind of AMV that I didn't want to make...or maybe I should have, idk.

I don't know what else to say about this video. I made it during a very busy period of editing in which I finished a couple of videos and laid down some solid groundwork for a couple of others. This AMV, along with another I may post sometime soon, finally forced me to learn how to properly mask in After Effects (and how not to mask using alternative methods). It's 480p because that's how it was released and I don't believe that upscaling it would really help it look better. I may investigate my options going forward with any DVD-only sources, but not today.
