Another video in a series of yuri comedy-romances starring Lain and Alice, the first of which was Lain At The Gay Bar.
This one is a little more elaborate.
Lain, after being humiliated in her romantic endeavors, fantasizes about how awesome life will be in the future, and takes solace in PC dating sim games. (Because not matter how you look at it, it's you guys' fault she's not popular!) She gets an idea of how to finally obtain the object of her affections, and sets about acquiring the necessary equipment.
Other Sources
The dating sim shown here is the eponymous game introduced in the AMV Kawaii Girls: Ultimate Dating Simulator by Fizziks, who kindly gave me permission to use it. The draw of this game is the "Infinite 2D" technology that lets you insert yourself into the game and communicate with characters from different anime series. Motoko Kusanagi is advertized as one of the romancable characters in the game, and we all know that hot cyborgs are totally Lain's thing. "Infinite 3D" is clearly an upgrade to this system, but what does it do?
The laser-wielding robots are from Portal, because I couldn't resist the Jonathan Coulton tie-in.
The skating scene is from Black Butler
There are a few frames from Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence, and the OP of Stand Alone Complex: 2nd Gig.
The dolphin is from my favorite episode of Muromi-san, where she reveals her grudge against aquatic mammals.
The space lab is the International Space Station, from the video for Cmdr Chris Hadfield's cover of Space Oddity.
