  Overall, I loved the series When they Cry, but there don't seem to be enough serious AMVs about it. Most AMVs try to be creepy or funny... while very few seem to take When they Cry seriously. In this video, I wanted to focus on depression... depression derived from feeling powerless and trapped. It is ironic, Rika is arguably the most powerful character in this anime with the most options, but even she succumbs to depression early on in Season 2.
  
  Adam's Song was a song I listened to when I was a more emo youngster. Its a very emo song, and I think it fits the mood that I want to tell. The narrator clearly suffers from suicidal depression. Fortunately, the narrator fails to commit suicide early on in the song and lives long enough to pull himself out of it. By the last verse, the narrator is finally optimistic about the future.
  
  There are few direct parallels between the Anime and the lyrics... however, the mood of both Rika and the Narrator of Adam's song sync up well together. Rika dies alone in every time loop, after being defeated and tortured by an unknown enemy for unknown reasons. Eventually, When they Cry offers a surprise happy ending for Rika, and she is finally optimistic about the future. It is this emotion I focus on in the AMV.
