This is NOT meant to be a yaoi/boys love/shonen-ai AMV. This is merely a parody of the Innuendo born of the translation of anime.
However, if a fangirl wishes to fangirl, she has my full permission.
WHY THE HELL “THAT’S WHAT SHE SAID”?-
School forced me to go into hibernation when it came to making AMVs. For awhile, I thought I wouldn’t be making any until summer started. Of course, when summer started, sewing would be dominating my life, so there went all my hope of having something to submit to a convention. Something decent, that is.
Meanwhile, between writing papers for school and sewing a cosplay, I found myself becoming an avid fan of a darling little series made for the male-viewr called ‘D.Gray-Man’. In the end, D.Gray-Man is the reason for this little AMV. Male-oriented series, such as Bleach and Naruto, always tend to have those lines that make you want to go “THAT’S WHAT SHE SAID!”, but when you’re reading something (such as a comic book, or a novel) you don’t notice. D.Gray-Man was no exception.
You’ve probably figured out now, that I was NOT watching the anime at this time. I was impatiently waiting for Funimation to bring it here so I could watch it with my family in English. I’m lazy when it comes to reading subtitles.
A few weeks before the official release in the USA, clips of the dub were popping up on Youtube. Of course, I HAD to watch them. I watched all the clips. Lavi’s dub was the last one I watched. He had more clips than some of the other characters, so I put him off. It was then that I came to realize how…’dirty’…the words that come out of Lavi’s mouth were. I immediately grabbed my comic and was shocked to find, my god, they were dirty there too! I IM’d a buddy, quoting the line, and it became my away message on AIM for a bit. An away message that got nearly everyone to instantly go “THAT’S WHAT SHE SAID”! I told my first buddy, the dear Riii, that I needed to make a video that pulled lines for anime dubs and then a “THAT’S WHAT SHE SAID!” right after it.
I then went to look this up on youtube. I didn’t want to do it if someone else had already.
Instead, I found an NBC commercial. This commercial ended up being used as the audio in this AMV.
Of course, when the dub finally came out, I sat down and watched it with my dearest family. We made it through the first twelve episodes no problem (Well, sort of…Road is rather scary to a six year old). Then we watched episode 13. Episode 13…the lovely episode where we are introduced to none other than Lavi. This episode had my mother and me laughing for a good chunk of it.
I mean, this episode (Plus, filler ones) makes me understand where the Lavi/Allen pairing came from. Apparently, hell with best friends. Their conversations…are…well…”Big Hammer, Little Hammer, Extend~! Hold on Tight!”
Anyways, it wouldn’t be right if I moved on without an example of some of their dialog. Of anyone who has had the pleasure of watching Bleach has heard similar things exchanged in conversation, no?
“Lavi: Little Hammer, Big Hammer, GROW! GROW! GROW!
Allen: It’s HUGE! :O
Lavi: Keep your head down! D:<
And a few minutes later…
Allen: *breathless* That is incredible! I can’t believe it can fly too!
Lavi: I know! I couldn’t live without it!
Allen: *serious face* Doesn’t it get heavy? Especially when it fully extends…
Lavi: Not at all! C: It stays the same weight no matter what its size.
Allen: Wooow. :O”

THE MAKING OF//EXPLANATION OF MY THOUGHT PROCESS//BACKSTORY?-
Yeah…This is the first time I’ve ever gotten my footage properly. I used DVD Decrypter instead of Fraps. iNORITE? So this AMV is probably my best quality. :3
So, the beginning of the video, the 30 second conversation between Hughes and Mustang, that was an insanely thought out scene. Originally, it was going to between Kanda and Allen. Yet, in the end, I couldn’t see Kanda saying “That’s what she said!” or talking that much to get a rise out of Allen. So, then I moved onto Allen and Lavi. I wanted to use them because they were my main inspiration for the AMV, especially since I could see them saying these lines. When it came down to it, I realized Allen was just too darn innocent to be playing the part of Jim. Plus, I didn’t have enough footage of Lavi. These two were very close to getting the part, and I thought about using them for a long time. Reever and Komui got some pondering from me, but I quickly moved onto Fullmetal Alchemist, wanting Mustang to play that part of Michael. I still was not done the debating. See, Jim was either going to be played by Edward or Hughes. Hughes won because my mother said Hughes was better suited for that part.
I think I agree.
So when I started ripping footage, I noticed Hughes talks on the phone, ALL THE TIME. Then boom! The story behind the AMV hit me.
Basically, Mustang has called Hughes up on the phone to tell him, sorry, he has a serious job now. He can’t be as…freely comical anymore. Hughes is worried about what his old buddy will be like if he changes like this and shows his concern…by forcing poor Mustang to revert back to his comedy line. Mustang tried to hang up on Hughes several times, but found himself unable to stop listening completely.
The two then reminisce over all the ‘perverted’ moments they’ve seen over the years. Of course, In the end I'm not really sure where the end of the AMV fits in. It just does.
Please, I hope you enjoy the AMV. I worked hard on it. *bows*
