  • Comments: This is an AMV featuring a three-way fusion of concepts. The core AMV is based upon the anime series Boogiepop Phantom, with "Six days" (DJ shadow remix) as the soundtrack.

The third concept is the mix-in of anime with 3d clips from different PC demo productions from many demo parties. I should mention again here that this AMV was only meant to fulfil creative purposes, and that no part of the source materials belongs to me.

Total work time spent on this video was roughly 1 month and a half.

Now, about the way I went to conceive this video, I would say the core ideas revolved around the soundtrack, which just blew my mind when I first heard it (obviously, afterwards came the unsettling words "make a video... make a video" hehe).

Bearing that in mind, I do not consider myself a highly creative person in terms of coming up with scripts, or formal directing elements, so the approach I took was to look at the entire Boogiepop Phantom series one more time (it's been a while since the last time I saw it), and then think about the parts of the anime which may match some parts of the song.

As one might expect, lyrics guided segments were fairly easy to tackle since they tend to dictate the flow and direction of the video. The hard part then becomes the instrumental segments. The song six days has a huge instrumental hole midway into it. This basically gave me some blank time where I would need to think what to reflect in the video in relation to what happened in previous sections.

The end result is that the main idea in the video consists of separate stories, some guided by the lyrics, and other guided by text. It is in the middle part where, lacking lyrics support, I mainly concentrated on focusing the viewer towards text supported ideas, and 3d demo and generated media effects ever present in the background.

On this part, I was lucky to have access to my former college's Maya labs where I was able to snatch some time to create quick 3d text effects and sprite overlays. These, and masked recordings of PC demos are the techniques I employed for adding support to the raw anime video material.

Any constructive feedback is highly appreciated.
