  • Comments: Going strictly by the amount of months this took start to finish, this is by far the longest time I've ever let a video sit on my hard drive (however, if you were to condense all the time actively spent on it down, it would probably look more like a month or month and a half).

Originally, I had wanted to get this done in January of 2008 and release it on Valentine's Day, considering the subject matter. But my motivation and growing rage at my computer got the better of me. I had all the footage ready, I had several pieces on the timeline prior to February 14th, but then it sat in limbo for about 5-6 months until the latter half of August, when I suddenly got inspired again and filled up the remaining part of the timeline in two weeks. I encoded the first beta version on September 2nd - it came in two flavors: one with no overlays, and one with. I'd intended to try to highlight the first section of the video in relation to the process of events I'd laid out on the timeline, but unfortunately the overlays looked horrid and I had rendered out a clean version just in case, which was the version I actually sent out to beta.

Then, it sat around for another 3 months. In November I did start the beta process, but after getting some input it still just laid there because I was dreading opening up Premiere at all. Finally, on December 23rd I finally got it in me to go in and make some of the changes suggested and other things I'd personally observed as well. I then put out a second beta version, which is the same as the final release due to me not having any good ideas about implementing the feedback I'd gotten for it the second time around, and because I was already largely satisfied with the outcome anyway.

The plot of this video follows the plot of Mahoromatic pretty closely, with some not-quite-so-accurate things thrown in for good measure. In some kind of way, I didn't want to portray Mahoro as she was in the anime - namely, not human. And in dealing with that issue, I figured I'd shoot the whole 'dirty thoughts are bad' line into the sand.

My reason for using "I Love You, Always Forever" (commonly cited as one of the most played songs of the '90s, btw) is because it does hold some personal significance to me, not only in sentimental terms, but concerning my love of music as well. I started to make my own choices about what music to listen to, rather than just listening to whatever my parents did, in late 1996. Not that there weren't instances of me being exposed to contemporary music before that, but that was when I decided that I would do so of my own volition rather than others around me being the force behind it. And it just so happens that this song was new at the time, and forms one of my earliest memories concerning my own choices of music. It still evokes that sense of nostalgia from me, in a way very few other songs do. Normally, I wouldn't do videos with songs like that, because I don't want to start hating them from hearing them so much. But in this case, pairing it with Mahoromatic was just too perfect of a combination, and I simply had to do it. And luckily there hasn't been much of a problem with me resenting the song - just me resenting myself for not getting this video done earlier.

Note about the title: 'Eien no Shunkan ni Kanshite wa' is the translation I found that was close enough to the English phrase 'As For An Instant In Eternity'. If the Japanese characters in the filename don't display correctly in Windows Explorer, follow step 3 of this guide to install the proper language support.
