AKA Pat Vicious and Spike the Kid
My second major AMV, this time working with my personal favorite anime series, Cowboy Bebop. The premise of this vid was inspired by the movie Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid, a retelling of the last days of the notorious outlaw Billy the Kid starting just after his former friend, partner, and fellow outlaw Pat Garrett is made sheriff and given the assignment by the corrupt frontier powers to capture, or, preferably, kill Billy.
The film is both an homage to the Old West, its final days as the frontier is taken over by corrupt businessmen and politicians, and the spiral of violence between Garrett and Billy that tears apart their lives and those of their friends and allies. The parallels between that conflict and the conflict over Julia that turned onetime friends Spike and Vicious into such bitter enemies that Vicious continued to relentlessly pursue Spike even after Spike left the Red Dragon syndicate and faked his death were obvious to me. And just as the movie has a sense of inevitability about it, that's it's only a matter of time before Pat and Billy meet each other and one or both of them die, I tried to create a similar feel here, with Vicious taking Pat Garrett's place and the inexorable countdown to his and Spike's final confrontation.
The song used is a cover of the song Billy which Bob Dylan wrote and performed for the film's soundtrack. This particular cover, which combines several versions of the song, (Dylan does at least 3 different versions that he sings in the film, all of which have slightly different lyrics, and several more that are instrumental bits) is performed by youtube user lipstick206, whose permission I tried to get to use on this video, and who I hope doesn't mind me using it after she failed to respond.
That's all for now, I hope anyone that sees this enjoys the vid. Includes footage from Asteriod Blues, Stray Dog Strut, Honky Tonk Women, Ballad of Fallen Angels, Sympathy for the Devil, Heavy Metal Queen, Jamming With Edward, Jupiter Jazz (parts 1 and 2), Bohemian Rhapsody, Mushroom Samba, Pierrot le Fou, Cowboy Funk, The Real Folk Blues (parts 1 and 2), and Knocking on Heaven's Door. (The Movie).
