• Comments: Audio: The audio was 99% unadulterated from the ATV Drama serial 'Fist of Fury' drama theme song starring Donnie Yen who was the choreographer, actor and editor. He incidentally sang the theme song as well. Yes that was his real voice singing. :) He wanted the series to be a tribute towards Bruce Lee. It's a TV series made in 1995.
  
  Lyrics:Oh yes, I've added both Chinese and English subtitles this time. I did most of the translation myself. The Chinese lyrics were very patriotic and well written and some of the meaning was lost in translation but i tried my best in that aspect. Some of the qualities of heroes mentioned in the lyrics were questionable but i just stuck as close as i could to the original meaning without prejudice.
  
  
  
  Background Info: The term sick man of Asia or sick man of East Asia refers to the derogatory term for the Chinese by Japanese invaders during the Second World War and the years immediately preceding it, in which Japan occupied sections of China.
  
  The phrase features prominently in the original Bruce Lee film Fist of Fury and the TV series By Donnie Yen. The derogatory term along with the invasion provoked an unprecedented level of patriotism amongst the Chinese who banded together to form the Heroes of Jing Wu (led by Donnie Yen's character and his master- Huo Yuan Jia- Jet Li's character from Fearless) who fought to drive out the Japanese. His master was poisoned by the Japanese and Donnie Yen's character went postal on the Japanese and discovered the art of formless fighting (that somehow goes along with the Bruce Lee shrieks).
  
  In the Kenichi anime, the Shinpaku alliance is a clan started by Kenichi's friend Nijima. They started off as a joke since all the original members were not fighters and was deemed to be a bunch of losers. That was until Kenichi joined and many good fighters followed suit.
  
  Director Notes:
  I made this video not to rekindle some past conflicts but because the theme appealed to me. In this case, the video is about the Heroes of Shinpaku who have been branded losers. They fought to protect their honor and also against foreign invaders.
  
  
  This is sort of a sequel to my other Fist of Fury video "Fist of Kenichi's Fury'. That was a short fun parody. This is short too but much more effort was spent on it. It was a project on a personal level and i took it a lot more seriously. I consider this on par with my previous effort: 3 (Naruto to 300 trailer).
  
  There are a few simple rules I tried to abide by in the editing of this video:
  
  1) Syncing of the video to the audio. The audio which comes with lots of beats and blows created many problems for me and directly conflicted with many of the rules below
  
  2) Follow as closely to the original video as possible since this is more of a tribute to the series. Hence, i used a montage of faces (in the middle of the vid) just as the original even though it might look awkward at that point.
  
  3) Sticking to the theme of heroes and fighting for honor. This was difficult. I tried to include footage of flag bearing, gung-ho cheering and banding together of various characters to create that theme but sometimes it is just not possible. Making this video about the Shinpaku Alliance also restricted me to the footage I could use. Some of the best fights in the series (Kenichi vs Hermit, Kenichi v.s Sieg and Kenichi v.s Takeda) could not be used since the Shinpaku members are not supposed to fight one another, right? Since this is about the Heroes (plural) of Shinpaku, i tried to give ample footage to every member, even Nijima and Matsui.
  
  4) Lyrical sync: this is much more difficult than i expected. It was ok for most part of the first half of the video but because criteria 1 is priority, the video sort of became more of a slug fest towards the end but it can't be helped.
  
  
  I'll add more when i can think of. In the meantime, enjoy. Despite the many above issues, i believe this is still rather enjoyable (no bias here).
