  • Comments: Phew, this was a tough one ^^

My first ideas for this video date back before 2007 holidays. After watching Paradise Kiss in HD (and liking it a lot), I thought it might be a good opportunity to make a HD video. Since I never saw one before I was attached to the idea. And finally, I chose a song and made the video itself during summer 2007.

(Meanwhile I stumbled uppon 2 other HD videos, one MAD called "Owaranai Tabi ni Koi shite", and Koop's video on Suzumiya Haruhi. So I gave up on being the first ever HD amv, but hey it was still fun ^^)

Since the PC I worked on wasn't a high end one, and because uncompressing 12 HD episodes of the show would take too much time + harddrive space, I had to resort to cutting the wanted scenes inside Vegas while the eps where still in h264. This made the previewing of the video a bit tedious (had to make a speed-render config for previews which I always had to render out to see the timing etc ^^). So I just used a KISS method - Keep It Simple, Stupid. So no fancy uber-effects, no crazy lights, lasers and ninja wizards.

But what I really liked about making this vid, was that I finally got to encoding HD in h264. That codec rulz. I made 3 versions for a local amv contest on a local con (didn't win anything, doesn't matter ^^) and the 1280x720 h264 version was the smallest (smaller than 768x432 Xvid first pass). That is also the version I am distributing.

Overall, I like this video, although I have still work to do later (have already plans for 1 more HD hehe). I hope learning more with AfterEffects (did some neat stuff also in this vid with it, really a powerful tool) and well, that's it I guess. Enjoy ;p

There have been some issues about playback for some people. I assure you I have tested the playback on 5 different computers (2 laptops, 3 desktop PCs) with different configurations. There are 2 reasons, why the video won't play the way it should. First one is that you have a slow PC :] But, the slowest I have tested it on (a 1.3 GHz HP laptop) has played it without problems. Therefore there is also the second reason, which is a bad decoder. For some people using ffdshow's libavcodec for decoding h264 (which is also included in CCCP) is still slow (on low-end machines that is). I recommend using the CoreAVC decoder, which is not free, but is 2x faster as libavcodec. Thank you for understanding :]
