This video will probably be the first in a series I wish to make, entitled: ‘Reflections on Style’. With the videos in this series I will try and realise my view on aesthetics, which is based on creating an air of mystery with my work. I will be relying heavily on mood sync to achieve this goal. Why the series is called ‘Reflections on Style’, is that I wish to reflect the mood of the source in my videos with the use of the same stylistic elements as in the source and hint at a possible meaning for them. A very good example of this would be using expanding circles in a video with Akira. It’s basically trying to recreate a film or series in music video form and being very thorough about it.

    Video itself

In this video I went with the feeling of wonder (duh). The first two scenes are just putting a setting. With the next few scenes that fade in and out I tried to show how the girl is discovering this new strange place through her own eyes. When the lyrics start I just showed this girl feeling at peace in this quiet, little place, but at the same time discovering something new. I used the expressions on her face to illustrate this point, sometimes syncing with what was being sung. This comes to a high point at the scenes with the dove, from then on I wind it all down and show the background in which this all takes place, with a hint of social commentary. The feeling of peace however turns slightly sour just before the agents shut everything down. The girl returns and has this feeling of loss but eventually lets go.
I used a few stylistic elements in this, like the the use of jolts, which was just to reflect that this place was slightly unhinged from reality as in the original source. Another thing I used was the repeated acurrance of a can. I don’t really know what it means for sure, but I have my ideas and I certainly don’t think it was just put in there for nothing. I’ll let the viewer decide for themselves what it means. If you want to know my ideas on it, though, feel free to ask.

That was my story, I hope you enjoyed the video.
