  • Comments: ***WARNING** This is boy-on-boy (only shōnen-ai though). If you aren't interested in that kind of thing you have 2 options. (1) Don't watch so you're not offended. OR (2) Pretend Shuichi is a girl. ;) It's not too hard to do considering he has pink hair and acts like a wuss 99% of the time.

I'd like to start by saying that this is my first AMV, so it may be a bit rough around the edges. Just because it's my first doesn't mean I want everyone to go easy on me though. :) Lemme have it so I know what I should keep in mind for my next AMV. I really thought this song matched up well with Shuichi and Yuki's relationship to each other and tried to portray that to the best of my ability.

For those who have never watched Gravitation, here is a short summary of it (no major spoilers though). Shuichi (our little pink haired prince) is a 18 year old aspiring singer who writes and sings songs for his boy band "Bad Luck". Struck by a case of writers block, he runs into a famous romance writer named Yuki who tells him he has no talent and should abandon all hope. In an attempt to reclaim a bit of his shattered self-confindence, Shuichi tracks him down in hopes of somehow convincing Yuki to come to his Concert and hear his song. Dispite the foul demeanor and harsh treatment he is forced to endure, Shuichi quickly falls for the troubled writer, and his easy-going, fun loving lifestyle make it seem as though he doesn't really hear anything Yuki says. In reality, he sees the darker side of his lover and simply chooses to accept and love him anyway. Gravitation is about the hurdles Shuichi is forced to overcome to win Yuki's love while achieving his goal of becoming the number one band in Japan.

I personally am a huge fan of the Gravitation Manga, more so then the anime, though the anime if very very good. In the manga Shuichi tends to show alot more of his serious side, which is the side I tried to bring out in the video. If you've ever seend Gravitation you know that it's no easy task to make Shuichi seem like a semi-serious person, so bare in mind that I had a limited amount of scenes to pick from in order to keep the right visual going.

The video itself was created in Premiere 6.5 following the various guides on this site. It is about 3 minutes long and took me about three weeks to complete. Dispite this being a love story I wanted it to follow the beats of the song while following the story of the lyrics, even though the popular romance AMVs tend to ignore most of the beats, so it may stand out a bit in a good or bad way. I wouldn't say it's really action packed though since there's no hack and slash or gun slinging in this AMV.

I marked yes for both Lip Sync and Digital Effects but you will find there are very few of either in this video. I only lip synced once near the end. I was originally planning to do more then that but I cut it down a bit for the sake of keeping pace with the rest of the song. The lyrics of the song are a bit too slow in most places for it to look completely natural, at least for a novice lip syncer like myself. The Digital Effects are pretty minimal since I didn't want to add anything that wouldn't directly improve the video. I did a little scene shaking with the Motion effect and some brightening on some of the darker scenes that can't be seen very clearly if you don't have the full minute and a half to stare at them. A few still frames and some minor speed changes were used as well, but the vast majority of the video is just hard cuts and fades to black or other scenes.

Thanks for watching, I hope that you all enjoy it. If you feel like leaving a suggestion or two it'd be very appreciated. Special thanks go out to the writers of the many guides I waded though to find out how to properly create my first AMV. You guys rock. :)
