My lesson for this video is that it is damn difficult to make a romance video that goes somewhere when using a movie that hardly has the main two characters interact. Yet I still did it. Go figure.
This was originally intended to be my vid for awa pro. About 6 weeks before deadline I figured that I was not going to get a 5 min long video done in time and instead opted for the real otaku heroes vid. This video took less time, about 110 hours total as compared to the 125+ spent on the other one, with the Real Otaku Heroes vid being hardly over a min long.
Basic premise for those who have not seen any of Makoto Shinkai's work, he deals a lot with relationships that suffer seperation of some point. If you don't get the song, well, you are a deprived person who needs to go watch Cowboy Bebop.
The editing for the most part is somewhat simple. I don't see the need to make incredibly complicated shots for a drama or romance video, particularly with as beautiful footage as this one has. There are a few things in there, with some minor work in AE for a couple scenes, but they are not meant to stand out and go "OMG effects".
Overall, this is probably my best video to date. My last one was certainly fun, but is not meant to be art or even 'good' in any way. So this was me trying to so something a little more serious again and to pull off what I personally think is lacking in drama vids behind layers of pretty layering and effects.... storytelling. So if you catch the basic jist of it, then it did its job.
