• Comments: So, one day Jenner and I are talking on the phone and I tell him I need a project. He gives me this. There is a film both of us love titled "The Heart of the World," and independent Canadian short film directed by Guy Maddin. The thing is a six minute feature, I swear to god. The original short was created for the 2001 Toronto Film Festival as a curtain raiser and ended up being the most critically praised film at the entire fest.
  
  So, Andy tells me he'd like to see this short done to Metropolis. Perfect, I say, I'll do it! This is a much more daunting task than one could possibly imagine. You see, in order to get footage to look like messed up 8mm film one must apply a series of filters to destroy said footage, including good old CineLook filmdamaged (keyframed to hell), a glow (as film actually saturates when shot), a letterbox to retain that filmic ideal, etc., etc.
  
  There must also be an interesting background story in order to keep viewer's interest. I didn't want this to be an exercise in style. The style itself is a byproduct of the project, not the other way around. So, we came up with a concept - a city that represents the internal workings of a very old computer. The story itself should unfold, however, if you've any questions, feel free to email.
  
  Another important aspect was text. The text carries the story, supports the plot just as much as the visuals. It had to be clean (then messed up) with a certain look. I used the font Propaganda for that look in order to keep the overall style close to Soviet propaganda and film techniques.
  
  I hope the project speaks for itself. I consider it an Infringement project more than an AMV, a sort of short film using found footage. I'm extremely proud of it and I hope it does the job of entertaining you, the viewer.
  
  It was entered into the AWA 12 Pro Contest and walked away with Best Storytelling and Best Artistic Endeavor. Yeah!
