SH099 should give the lie to the oft-repeated meme that the best work is done in exile. This is a bizarre, deliberately obscurantist, unnecessarily challenging video that is still not quite up to the standard of bizarre, deliberately obscurantist, and unnecessarily challenging videos that I've done in the past. Given that it was made with Brechtian and deconstructivist ideas in mind, though, people ought to be able to take something out of it, at least.

There was an authorial point to this video beyond fucking with people, but per Brecht I'm not going to give that away. The video should include enough verfremdungseffekt that you'll be properly asking yourself about its aims and purposes while the video is in progress. Also, given the deconstructivist objectives of the video, whatever you decide about it is probably right -- including the conclusion "Kai is insane, and this video is a largely randomized piece of crap". The real meaning here is up to you -- it can be read as a moderately straight treatment of the song, or something completely different, but I'd be surprised if anyone constructed it as having anything to do with Argent Soma.

The title of this video is a combination of line noise and a modification to the title of Heinrich Boell's "Wanderer, kommst du nach Spa" which is one of the most perceptive fictional pieces written on the average German's participation in the Third Reich and the Second World War. There are some underlying-level similarities between this short story, Argent Soma, and the song, but discovering them for yourself is part of the fun of the Brechtian process. The modification is also significant, but how it relates to the video is again up to the viewer.

Shin Hats Self Grade: B-. Even I don't know what this video is trying to do in any absolute sense; that outcome will vary individually and is substantially outside my control.
