Oh no, not another FLCL video! Admittedly, I was going to avoid making an FLCL video, since so many had been made, and I consider acomalas' The Perfect Drug the ultimate FLCL vid. However, when I first heard the lostprophets song, Last Train Home, I felt compelled to make this video. Last Train Home really struck a nostalgic, heart-breaky tone with me, and I wound up trying to make a video that focused on Naota's painful passage into maturity. I did the best I could to stay away from overused footage, although there are a couple of moments that were just perfect.
This video was tough to finish. I started on the second half of the song, which is why I think that part is stronger. I also ran out of sentiment about two weeks in, obviously a bad thing when you're trying to tweak the ol' heart strings. The Naota-Haruko conversation over the "She told me that it's all part of the choices that you're making/Even when you think you're right you have to give to take" lyric is awkward on its own - I left it as is because it makes sense in the greater scheme, but I cringe when I watch it. I am very happy with the chorus segments, but since I've heard the song about a thousand times, I on't feel anything when I hear it anymore...
Long and short, I'm not going to watch the video again until Otakon; hopefully it's good enough to make the contest. As is my usual, I'll upload the video once it premieres, probably late on July 30. (As you can see, I decided to change my mind...)
Thanks,
CPFuller
(added 5/7/04) OK, I figured out a slightly less ham-fisted way to deal with the above couplet. When I do u/; the video, you'll notice the difference between the contest version and this version. Sadly, I already sent it off to Otakon... Let this be a lesson. Wait 24 hours before you submit a video to a contest - it gives that little light bulb in your head a chance to go off one last time.
(forget the whole XviD thing - it's and mpeg2, so you'll need DVD capabilities. Thanks to Jebedia for pointing that out.)
( updated 9/26/04) Honorable Mention - Otakon 2004 AMV contest, Romantic/Sentimental
