- Initial D Burning Up for You
I really am glad I watched Initial D, if only for the music. I had been wanting to do an Ah! My Goddess Movie AMV for quite a while now, but no music I had come across seemed to interest me much. And then, having gotten the Millennium Box Initial D soundtrack, and coming across this song on "D Selection 2"... and, well, I was hooked. I felt the pacing was just the thing I was looking for.
This was also my first AMV done entirely with anamorphic footage, hence the 512 x 264 ratio. I was really happy to work with Pioneer's Region 1 DVD because, compared to the last few AMVs I've done, this was done in excellent quality, and really I could not complain about anything in the source. It was also nice to work with the show that has, at least so far, had the most beautiful animation I've used thus far in my AMVs. So, really, all technical aspects of the video are quite nice, if I do say so myself.
Even so, this was challenging enough to make. The song was long (about 5 minutes) and I simply did not feel I should skimp out and cut it out early. Several parts, which I felt had to be there, were nearly impossible to edit just perfectly. So I did my best and did everything to make sure nothing hindered the pacing and flow of the story. In that sense I think I did pretty well...I couldn't QUITE end the video exactly the way I wanted it to, but I won't complain because by that point I was getting pretty tired (I pulled almost three all-nighters in a row in the video's final days).
Basically, this video recaps the whole basic plot of the movie. I made it focus on, not so surprisingly enough, Belldandy and Keiichi, and how their relationship is tested by the arrival of Celestin. Maybe it's just because I'm a tad bit biased (AMG the Movie is my favorite anime feature film), but I was very moved making this video. A touch less darker than my "Deadly Crush" AMV, no? I hope this video will help show truly what a beautiful and moving piece Ah! My Goddess truly is at heart, and show that it is far from the "Shounen Love Crap" that has been branded upon it by oh so many people I know.
