  • Comments: Title: Ouran Mix Project
Duration: 17 minutes and 14 seconds, counting the opening and ending (and everything in between)
Audio Clips Used: 38 (two from the same song)
Time Spent: Countless Hours. According to the date modified on my first saved file, I started this project way back in April 2007. Of course, I didn’t constantly work on it, but considering how most of my three-four minute videos are finished in a matter of hours…this one took forever in comparison.

The goal of this video? To use pieces of songs that could fit with clips of Ouran perfectly, while the rest of the song would not have correlated.

    IMPORTANT NOTES:
1 – Please download and watch the video before reading the following commentary. I don’t want to spoil the surprise for you.
2 – FYI, the “Mechanism: Unknown” written in the opening is actually a pun, “Mechanism Unknown” being my new username on fanfiction.net.
3 – I’m not that good at lip-syncing, and – I’ll admit it – I’m too lazy to spend a lot of time with it. Although I did put extra effort into it for this AMV, and some of it worked out quite well in my opinion, all “perfect” lip-syncing was most likely accidental. (Don’t you just love it when it works out that way?)
4 – I guess I should warn you that some of my Kyouya/Tamaki tendencies crept into making this vid. Then again, I’m sure some of the stuff could be interpreted as Hikaru/Kaoru as well, so I think it’d be okay to assume I’m safe to say, “Don’t worry about it.” Hey, it’s fandom.

Track Listing with Applicable Commentary and/or Explanation:

    “Only One” – Yellowcard
Even my sister was amused by this one, and she doesn’t even like Ouran.

    “Basketcase” – Green Day

“Thanks for the Memories” – Fall Out Boy

    “Losing Grip” – Avril Lavigne

    “The Bitter End” – Placebo
This clip is actually part one of my full-length video, “Our World is Ending.” Though not one of the best videos I’ve created, I just love how perfectly literal this certain lyric is in relation to the twins.

“Suddenly I See” – KT Tunstall
Someone actually made a full-length video using this song, and honestly, I can’t remember who came up with the idea first.

“Breaking the Habit” – Linkin Park
Because Kyouya is allowed to be angsty, too.

Audio Clip – Mamoru Miyano, Death Note
This is for all you DN fans out there. And for those of you that aren’t…well, why not!? XD But seriously, for those of you who don’t know, Mamoru Miyano is both Tamaki’s seiyuu and that of Yagami Light. Ah, the dichotomy.

    “Save Me” – Shinedown
Okay, so maybe not a spoon…does Beelzenef count?

“Gaston” – Beauty and the Beast

    “Water” – Breaking Benjamin

“See You Again” – Miley Cyrus

“I Will Buy You a New Life” – Everclear
Someone recently did a full-length video for this one as well, so I feel the need to point out that I had the idea long before they did. Long before, as in before I even started making the vid in April 2007.

“Behind Blue Eyes” – Limp Bizkit
    hugs!Nekozawa

“Cavity Search” – “Weird Al” Yankovic

“Was it a Dream?” – 30 Seconds to Mars
This clip didn’t turn out quite as well as I had hoped, but I decided to keep it anyway.

“(Vi Sitter i Ventrilo Och Spelar) Dota” – Basshunter
I’m betting at least some of you gamers out there have heard this song, and know what it’s about. You know Kyouya’s been secretly playing WoW this whole time, too. Either that or he’s on LJ.

    “My World” – Avril Lavigne

Audio Clip – Masaya Matsukaze, Death Note
Another one for the DN fans. Masaya Matsukaze is Kyouya’s seiyuu, along with the voice of Mikami Teru. I consider it to be frightening how similar they are, or how easily it would be to write a fanfiction in which one replaces Mikami with Kyouya. This idea has been suggested to me before…
Oh, and you may be wondering why I used the clip of Kyouya doing his math homework as opposed to the available clip of him doing what appears to be a writing assignment that would be more realistic (names versus numbers). This is actually a half-inside joke, inspired by a post on LJ in which Light’s mother inquires into what he’s writing so vigorously. Light replies, “…Calculus.” Kudos to whoever wrote that.

    “So-Called Chaos” – Alanis Morissette

“Attack” – 30 Seconds to Mars
Because there are far too many Bleach AMVs utilizing this song. I realized a little too late that a clip of the twins’ fight would have been great.

“The Way You Love Me” – Faith Hill
“Love reflecting in my eyes”? Does it get any more literal than that?

“Big Girls Don’t Cry” – Fergie

“Bonjour” – Beauty and the Beast

“40 Kinds of Sadness” – Ryan Cabrera
“I don’t want the room to breathe.” I think it describes the twins’ dilemma quite nicely.

“Every Me Every You” – Placebo
Again, someone made an entire video to this song. However, their video is entirely about the twins, and thus completely different from this piece, and is highly recommended. It’s one of my favorite Ouran AMVs – “Every you and me!” by michiroo.

    “Innocence” – Avril Lavigne
Haha. ^^; I told you I couldn’t help my tendency to pair Kyouya/Tamaki.

    Audio Clip – Star Wars

    “Rock Star” – Nickelback

    “Gravity” – Maaya Sakamoto
Enough with the Death Note – this one’s for any Wolf’s Rain fans out there. Believe it or not, Maaya Sakamoto – Haruhi’s seiyuu – does sing this song. (She also voiced the minor character Hamona.) Which is kind of ironic, since the song Haruhi “sings” in the episode (“Little Wing”) is actually performed by Kawabe Chieko, who did the opening. Oh, and another interesting factoid: Mamoru Miyano played Kiba in Wolf’s Rain. Unfortunately, though, I don’t have any audio clips from the series on hand, or else I would love to lip-sync Tamaki to one of Kiba’s many “Let’s go to Paradise” lines. XD

    “She Fell” – Evans Blue

“Bonjour” – Beauty and the Beast (again)

“Caught a Lite Sneeze” – Evans Blue

    “It Only Hurts” – Default

“How Does it Feel” – Avril Lavigne

    “Znaesh li ti” – Maksim
I originally got the translation from Otohiko via the use in ukms[z]’s “Reflections,” though I’ve seen similarly translations around the web via Google searches. I know this isn’t the most exciting clip, but I felt that those words were so close to what Kyouya actually said at that point in the series that I had to use them.

“My Happy Ending” – Avril Lavigne

“Burning soul! Kick all your reason to the curb! This is the insane Great Gurren-Dan Theme” – Gurren Lagann
More commonly known as simply “Row Row Fight the Power.” I was told to do this for the ending since I had trouble coming up with a good one – a.k.a. it’s not my fault…

    The End
