This is a video I made in a television production class in college in 1994. The assignment was to demonstrate that I could make at least ten edits in a project of up to three minutes long, using found footage. And make something good.
"Found footage" means stuff you didn't shoot. So I dubbed my best Ranma VHS tapes to 3/4" U-Matic tape, and took to the edit suite. I used a Sony RM-450 edit controller connected to two Sony 3/4" U-Matic decks for most of the editing; Titling was done with a Quantafont QCG-400(?). I don't recall whether I used an A/B roll edit controller for the last edit, or a DVE machine in a studio, or both. Anyway, I received the highest grade in the class for the assignment. (Well, duh.)
I had no idea what an AMV was at the time.
Unfortunately, time has not been kind to the VHS copy I used to make this dub. There is also a 3/4" copy floating around, but I don't know if it is in my attic or in a landfill. When I played it back, I lost about four seconds due to the VCR not liking the tape.
I'm mostly pleased with it, but my standards have gotten to be more meticulous since 1994. If I did it again, I might have made a few different choices.
I just wish my 13-year-old master had less dropout. :-( Maybe that means I have to remaster this from DVD at some point.
