It all started when a few members of AMVdeFans put some pink in their avatars.

As a response to this, other members (including myself) stated that red was better than pink.

Thus a friendly war started on the forum: the Red vs. the Pink.

Of course, AMV makers had to make this into a video war. That is how the Red vs. Pink contest was decided.

After a few weeks of red/pink crazyness on the forum (and a huge amount of fun), twenty anime music videos were released.

This is my red entry to the contest.

    The video

I wanted to make an exercise in style, so I tried to make a parody of a Soviet film of propagand.

Is this serious? Yes and no. It's serious because I wanted it to look authentic. It's also serious because it's a tribute to Russian space exploration, which made all of us dream by paving the way towards the stars and is perhaps one of the few admirable things about USSR.

Of course, it's also a kind of joke. It's a joke because any propagand film should appear as a joke to any critical viewer. By appealing to our sense of pride and majesty it just becomes too much, and that's what Milan Kundera describes as kitsch. So, yeah, this AMV is completely kitsch.

It's also a joke because I cannot be serious by praising USSR, which was one of the worst dictatorships ever. I'm just praising the kitsch aesthetics of propagand. And I really mean praising, not making fun of.

Finally, I thought it would be amusing to have a black and white entry to a red-themed contest.

That's a lot of talk for a 1-minute video. Have fun and feel the majesty of kitsch.
