I know that "Iron Chef" is now referred to as "Iron Editor", but in keeping with my previous videos, it's staying "Iron Chef" in the title.
For Otakon 2006's Iron Editor battle, I was asked to be a surprise competitor in a free-for-all match including Brad Backofen (AtomX), Meri Cantoni (MeriC), Mike LaBrie (VegettoEX), and Brian Moore (SSGWNBTD). The theme was "action movie trailer." I cobbled together a rough trailer audio track using a few various songs and then ripped a bunch of sound effects/quotes from the following films:
Kill Bill (both volumes)
Pulp Fiction
Mission: Impossible 2
The Rock
Die Hard
Serenity
The Matrix
During editing, I inserted sound effects and quotes where needed, so the final video may not include sounds from all of those films, but I think it includes most of them. I ran out of time to use all the sound effects I wanted, so there are a lot of scenes that obviously should have sound effects, but don't.
I attempted some sort of rudimentary plot, but in the end, all I really had was that there was some sort of unspecified evil and that a bunch of heroes were fighting it. The secret ingredient was Pryde of the X-Men, so I tried to make Magneto the villain, but that went out the door pretty quickly, since there wasn't much useful action footage of him.
I wasn't entirely happy with the finished product, but it ended up being one of the two winning videos. The judges told me afterward that my video scored major points for being structured like an actual film trailer, complete with credits, titles, etc. I picked Michael Bay as the fake director since he's the current whipping boy for all of geekdom, what with his Transformers adaptation coming up and all. Looking back, I wished I'd used Uwe Boll instead.
Not one of my favorite Iron Chef/Editor videos I've done, but it was still fun being part of the contest.
