(UPDATE 25 Feb 2003 1147 EST) New encode uploaded, done with XViD 0.9.0. Nearly half the size and twice the encode quality (still the same crappy editing quality, though). All title cards were also removed, which is fine with me, because nobody would ever want to pass this off as their own anyway.
ffdshow users may experience odd things when playing fullscreen -- just ignore it and scrub the player timeline to the beginning.
Note to melezov, should he be crazy enough to download this again -- I took your AVISynth tweaks into account; however, while they did mostly fix the scrolling problem, they also destroyed a lot of the effect work (which was all done in 29.97 anyhow). Therefore, this new encode does not include any decimation -- sorry...
As for audio -- I'll do that when I get a better source. I ripped "Cybersadhu" from CD, but I don't have the original WAV anymore (this encode was done by attaching an MP3 conversion I had laying around). I'll have to tweak the audio later, when I have the CD again (it's out at the moment...)

Metropolis - Family Matters
Music: "Cybersadhu", Solar Twins
For my second video, I thought it'd be fun to take a drastic departure from the sentimental genre and go full-out in hellfire and brimstone. (Sort of.)

Equipment: Heroine Virtual Cinelerra 1.0.0 w/ custom patches, GIMP 1.2.3, transcode 0.60pre5, AVISynth 2.5.0 + VirtualDub 1.5.1 (for XViD re-encode).
Video encoding: XViD 0.9.0 (DivX-compatible configuration), 1350 kbit/s VBR.
Sound compression: MP3, CBR 160 kbit/s.
For the curious, these are the sizes of my master video files:
-rw-r--r--+ 1 trythil users 5.9G Aug 15 05:16 test1.mov
-rw-r--r--+ 1 trythil users 6.1G Aug 15 05:43 test6.mov
Notes
------
This video represents about a month and a week of work, so I'm hoping it makes sense. Projects don't continue on for that long without getting incoherent somewhere along the line. (At least I can't keep coherency.)
To me, Rock, Tima, and Duke Red were *the* archetypal dysfunctional family, even though Metropolis didn't really explore that topic...
...so, in this video, I wanted to turn the personalities of Rock and Tima around and align them against each other and Duke Red. The first was explored in the movie; the second was not. (As far as I can tell.) This video, therefore, was meant to be a tale of the hell present between the three characters, and the death and destruction produced from that hatred.
Whatever or not I succeeded in communicating that storyline via this video, I don't know. *I* see the story, but then again, I'm the one who made this mess.
--
Video note: 00:29 -> 00:36 -- Duke Red's mouth is NOT supposed to sync with the vocals.
--
A *lot* of frame retouching / deletion went into this video to get audio sync (especially when it came to lip-synching). I think I succeeded, but who knows...
--
I went overboard on effects.
I'm sorry.
I do not, and cannot, claim any ownership to this AMV. However, I encourage anyone who might be interested in redistributing, reworking, or really doing whatever to this video to do so. I won't do anything.
