A lot of editors on the org, think that a style has to be a certain way. The timing, lip syncing, masking etc...
I has to be PERFECT.
The reason most vids arent perfect, is because the EDITOR isnt perfect.
No human being is perfect, and this goes for editing as well.
I could improve till my ass falls off, but ill still never have perfect masking, or perfect timing. Because IM. NOT. PERFECT.
Most critics forget this, and when they critique a video, they say things like "well thats not good looking" or "that wasnt well done".
This is all good, but remember, the editor doesnt just want to know what to change, but also how he can improve inside his program.
Clipping, ideas, adding fx a certain way, its all part of the editing/critiquing process, its not just the imperfections of the video itself.
I agree with chiikaboom, in the sense that a lot of editors here on the org, tend to think that the style used should be their own. And if its not their own, they flip out. Its this whole "thats not my style so its wrong" bais that gets ppl so worked up and pissed off with other editors.
If its not your style, leave it alone, move on and look past that.
When i review a video, i look for the style first. I see if i like it or not, if i dont critique it, i move on and look at the fx and see how they were used. If i dont like that i say whats on my mind, and move to story. If the story is good, i tell them, if it sucks, i ignore it and move on to the raw editing, which i am a bitchy critic about! xD
I just thought id write this out to let you guys know wut i think about critiquing.
