I guess the Japanese version is the original work and if you have english subtitles thats even better because of the fact that well - You understand it. Your average Joe wont seem to know Japanese so you need an experienced subber to make the anime come to life. ~_^
And thanks for the info. The "God" part sounds a bit freaky if you ask me.
But its the most original anime - What is there to lose?

lol. Yeah - If it was in Japanese. But if it was in english then I would hate the subtitles. Japanese is so comfusing to me! I have no clue whatsoever to what the heck they are trying to say.

Ah. Well I can give you one thing.
In the first episode - I believe that theres a girl named "Chelsia" that commits suicide and sends an E-Mail to lain. One of Lains classmates seems to be crying over it and a whole bunch of people had seemed to get the same E-Mail.
The only problem is... ITS IN FRIGGN JAPANESE SO I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE FREAK THEY ARE SAYING!!
