  • Where are the Jet Packs? I was Promised Jet Packs! 2002-07-24 13:36:54 Ok, now substitute "Jet Packs" with "AMV Badges"/

So Phade said the bedge contest would be over Tuesday and the Winer would be available for Download. It is now Wednesday and we have no Badge yet. Man, The whole reason the contest started was because I bunch of us AMV guys going to Otakon wanted to have something so we could locate each other. With Otakon starting Friday Morning, time in running out. Especially if you consider the fact that a lot of people are leaving home today (or already have left home) in order to arrive here on Thursday.

I myself life in Baltimore, and am staying down town with some out of state friends (to split the cost of the room) and I will be checking in tomorrow at noon. I have been up ALL DAMN NIGHT waiting for Phade to post this thing. It is now 1:30pm here in Baltimore, and he still gotten to it.
The question of weather or not something has happened to him comes to mind, as He is usually very prompt about these matters.

I just hope he get's to it soon. I would like to have it printed and laminated at Kinkos some time today or early tomorrow so I can take it to the con.

Oh well, I'm crossing my fingers.
  • Nothing to do......and bad news 2002-07-16 01:35:38 Well I'm sitting here with nothing to do. Which is the reason I am even bothering to make an entry, lol. There is nothing special to do online that I haven't done already (yes, I have reached the end of the internet many a time). My point is I am board.

Anyway let's get to the bad news part.
Well I just recieved the list of the finalists for the 2002 Otakon AMV contest (of which I am not part of, which is the bad part). I suck. Well I should have expected as much seeing how I sent the first vid I ever made for the Otakon contest. I didn't think I could win, but there is always a small hope in you that it will make it to the contest and be seen by a lot of people (to establish a name for yourself in the AMV circut). But at least it will be seen in the overflows (along with stuff what is WAY WAY WAY worse then what I made).
Hell, with that other crap, maybe mine will be good.

One thing keeps bothering me though. I attended the pre-screenings for this years vids (to vote and help establish which vids would go to the con, and no I did not vote when mine was shown). Anyway I used Akira for this AMV. The thing that keeps bothering me are these two assholes who were saying shit about it (before they even saw my vid, and not knowing I was right next to them). One was like "Akira? This gets a -2", and the other said "Yeah, Akira is one of those animes I wish was on the old luxan film, that way it would deteriorate quicker". Man this pissed me off. They did not even watch the thing and they already made their minds up about it. Oh well, maybe they will get aids or something one day (i can dream can't I). Anyway if you want to see the vid I am talking about it is here: http://westware.8m.com/amv/amv.html

The version you can download is in WMV format to keep the file size really small (11MB), cause I only have so much room on my site. The downside is that the vid and audio are not as good as the original uncompressed MPEG (200+MB), but it still looks decent.
  • No ones home... 2002-05-23 04:02:47 Well I am home, and my dog, but that's about it. My mom with with a friend (lady friend, not boyfriend) to the Bahammas or something like that for the week. So I've been stuck here since Monday being left to my own devises. The first floor is a mess with large pieces of Plexiglass all over the place from me working on my Otakon costume, and there are empty pizza boxes littering the hallways. It feals strange not having someone yell at me to clean my room or anything like that, very strange indeed. I have done so many useless things this week. And since I only work weekends (two 24hr shifts) I have the whole week to do whatever, and I've been waisting it all. I've been playing computer games when I should be working on my costume, I spent about......um.......$100 I don't have (add that to my already $1200 credit card bill). I'm going into debt, yup, no way around it. But at least I had fun spending it! I saw Episode 2 twice, once on Friday at 12:30am, and again with a friend on Monday. Note to self: Amidala is a FOX! Anyway I bought 2 new PC Games, well 1 game and 1 expansion pack (StarWars Galactic Battlegrounds, and the Clone Wars expansion pack). It's cool, but steep learning curve. I put about $20 of gas in my truck, and......oh crap I forgot, about $30 for Pizza (I had coupons for buy one get one free at Papa Johns). At least I get my next paycheck Monday so maybe then I will have enought to pay for everything. Anyway this week didn't go by without it's share of "shit". For instance, a friend of mine had been vomiting blood for about a week, so I had to take him the the ER Tuesday night where we were stuck from 6pm-11pm. I was messing with his head the whole time like when this nurse put in an IV with this long needle she said only the tip goes in. My buddy looked away while she put it in ALL THE WAY. Then I told my friend the she lied, and stuck it in all the way, man did he freak. Unknown to me at the time it was a type of needle I did not know about where the shaft retracts back into the cathiter. Then he kept saying he wanted to leave (cause we were there so long waiting for blood tests to come back) so I was like, "give me your arm and I rip the IV out". He freaked again. We are both volunteer firefighters so we have some experiance with this stuff. Anyway, fun was had by all. There is just one thing that has been driving me crazy this week...........SLEEP. I wish I didn't have to sleep, I could do SO much if I didn't sleep. Oh well, now go read someone elses thing.
  • Just Updated 2002-05-18 17:32:27 Well after spending about $1000 I finally updated my ancient computer system, well kind of. I still need a new motherboard and processor (using a 450P3 currently, but it works fine). Any way I put in a new 40GB HD, an External 60GB HD (USB2.0), internal zip 100 (I know 250 is out but all I need it 100. Besides I had an external CD-RW), and I even updated my internet connection from ADSL to Cable (My ADSL modem was incompatable with Windows XP which I just installed). XP is kind of weird at first. It just looks different. But I'm use to it now. Now I need to find a copy of Premier 6 online to download. I had a CDR of it but it got messed up. So I guess I'll go do that now.

Note to self: Must work on Otakon costume this week, NO MATTER WHAT!

Crap, I need to go back to work in 3.5 hours, DAMN! I work 24 hrs straight, come home for 6 hours then have to go back for 26! I hope we get a new person soon so I can get off at least 8 hours on Saturday. I would quit but it pays the bills, well most of them anyway. I'm babbling now. Peace!
  • PIMP-VANGELION REACHES 500 DIRECT DOWNLOAD MARK!!! 2002-05-06 21:56:43 Today the Flash Parody "Pimp-vangelion" reached it's 500th direct download mark. We talked with creator John Westbrook Jr. about this milestone and he had this to say, "I am happy. I just started listing my stuff here a few months ago and I am surprised that it has recieved so much attention on an AMV site". When we asked Mr. Westbrook why he submitted a Flash video to an AMV site he simply said "It's a parody of Evangelion, so I thought it should be here".
Pimp-vangelion (origionally "Pimpvagelion ep.1) started it's life on www.newgrounds.com where it has recieved hundreds of thousands of hits (along with many other flash animation by Mr. Westbrook) and they just keep growing. The following is an interview we had with Mr. Westbrook...

Reporter: I have been told that this movie was origionally named Pimpvangelion ep.1. From my understanding you were going to make this a mini series if I am not mistake.

John: That was the plan, hence the "to be continued" text at the end.

Reporter: Do you still plan on making this a mini series?

John: No. I have droped flash for now to persue my interests in AMV's.

Reporter: Ah yes, I understand you have made two AMV's (anime music videos) so far.

John: Yes, my first one was "I don't care" using Akira, and my second was "This or that" with Jin-Roh.

Reporter: How have your AMV's been recieved by the public?

John: So far they are not doing that well. Mainly because no one knows they exist. That should all change after they are seen at the anime conventions they have been send to. I expect more hits after they are seen.

Reporter: Oh so you have submitted them to Anime Conventions? Can you tell us which AMV's you submitted to what cons?

John: I sent "I don't care" to Otakon 2002 in Baltimore MD and will be shown the first time on July 26th and my second one "This or that" will be seen at Nekocon V in Virginia Beach VA on November 8th. "I don't care" is also scheduled to be shown at Nekocon V as long as they do not recieve too many submissions.

Reporter: Well thank you very much for taking the time to answer some of our question. And I apoligize for getting off topic about your Flash movie.

John: No problem. It was fun.

For thouse of you interested, Mr. Westbrooks AMV's are available for direct download. Be sure to check them out, and be sure to checkout "Pimp-vangelion" and Johns many other Flash movies at westware.8m.com/FLASH/flash.html
