MEPs
2007-02-08 14:25:12
If it's one thing I never liked, it was the addition of the Multi-Editor Project forums. From the start, I personally thought it was a bad idea. Sure, it edges on more MEPs because it's fun to be collaborating with other editors on one big project.
I guess in the end, it's more my problem than the AMVorg's. Before the MEP forums came up, I used to actually look forward to MEPs coming out because 1. They were so few, and 2. they were actually good.. Now MEPs are popping left and right, only 1 out of 10 are actually really good, 2 or 3 are average, and the rest are shit.
One song MEPs:
The only one I really looked forward to was the Children Project. Jeez, I remember it being so awesome, I still think so, too. It's alot better and well organized beyond 90% of the MEPs in the forums. Another example of a one song mep would be Alternate Dimensions(Can't wait for the 2nd one to come out :) )
Premixed MEPs:
Stuff like Reflections of Style have (for the most part) been extremely solid. It's been some of the best organized projects out there. Ayumix is also a very very excellent example of this, and the Final Fantasy VI Project is definitely something, even if it's not flashy.
AMV Hell type:
Now, the AMV Hell, 2, and 3,(I never saw 0) are all good, but I'm gonna clunk in like.. Christian Rock Project and stuff in here.. Basically, anything where people can just choose any song and anime they want and only edit to a portion(or whole) to a song are pretty much AMV Hell-types from what I can see. The only good ones I can think of in this category are.... obviously AMV Hell, 2, and 3. Christian Rock Project, DDR Projects, NES, RVG, and VG3. The rest are average and most are crap.
Band Mep:
You guys know what these are. MEPs with tracks to a certain band. Almost every single one is either shit or average. What really sucks, is that the best band MEP I've seen... never got finished... it was trashed... or in the "List of Known Projects" thread says, it's "In Limbo." That's right, I'm talking about the Linkin Park: Revolution project. As a personal preference, I liked it because it was premixed.. because no matter what people say about getting to pick your own part in the songs(because people would rather edit a certain part than others), I know the project overall would be better if there was a mix made before hand.
I mean, come on, it's very clear that if you take a band and make it into an MEP, that if you mix it yourself, the whole thing would meld together a lot lot better than if people were just choosing their own segments to the songs.
Anyways, back to the Linkin Park MEP. If that thing actually finished, it could've been one of the best MEPs out there. There were so many really really good tracks, and to name a few on the top of my head: Dacoolgohan, Niotex, Nostromo, and Superfusion all had really really freakin awesome tracks, and I thought it was a waste that this one had to drop because it would have definitely been up there with ROS in terms of sticking out.
An example of a good band mep that actually finished(that I can think of right now) was probably the Tool project, though I really only remember like the first few and last few tracks, those were really good.
Again, I gotta say, this is my own personal tick. I don't mind people making their own MEPs left and right, I just miss the days when most MEPs were actually fresh. Now I gotta deal with the trash and try to pick through to find the good ones.
