  • 2002-08-05 15:17:43 kyburg - Chopin, maybe, but in all honesty I haven't tried any - basically because when I have a reasonable amount of money in my pocket for nice alcohol I spend it on good whiskey, which is my drink of choice. So, when it comes to vodka I know what I like, but I haven't tried as many distillers as I should. That and all of the local stores have a stupidly poor selection of vodka.

It's much easier to find good whiskey round here than good vodka, which is good for me being a whiskey fan but not good for varity. I hate buying stuff for a party and being limited to Smirnoff red ::shudder:: It used to be much easier in Oxford, but it's popular amongst the lefties there... that and absynthe ^_^

Can you get absynthe in the US? It's only recently been allowed for importation in the the uk after a very long ban so I was wondering if there were any limitations on it there. It's not really my kind of thing (I'm not a big aniseed fan) but it's ever so trendy :)
  • "Now you're gone, and it's hotels and whiskey and sad-luck dames/And I don't care if they miss me, I never remember their names" 2002-08-04 09:35:21 Many thanks to Tim Park who gave me this yesterday:

Absolut vodka is really nice - much better than that horrid Smirnoff Red stuff.

The flavoured ones are pretty good too - the AbsolutCitron one makes a lovely alcoholic lemon coke :)

It's not up to the standard of this lemon vodka though:

    mmmmmmmmmmm

    despite what the website says you don't want to be polluting that one with coke ^_^;;
  • 2002-08-02 16:56:32 Epochof7: Joe did it... in a week... and won.

Of course it's possible... unless it's too ambitious.

    Good luck anyway ^_^
  • "I saw you baby dancin in your Xray gingham dress" 2002-08-02 11:15:34 I *just* made it into the AWA Pro contest by the skin of my teeth.

(and I just realised what an odd phrase that is)

Anyway, I'm happy - it'll be lots of fun seeing all those videos. It really is a contest where the taking part is better than the winning :D It's also good because I think peer judging is a very good thing, on the whole.

A big shout to Quu for helping me take part in the contest - I owe you big style, as you know ;)

I'm going to be buying my flight to Atlanta next week. It will probably cost about 500 dollars... luckily I've got a room share sorted for the friday and saturday nights. I'm probably going to arrive midday thursday though - also if anyone can give me a good reason to leave on monday instead of sunday I'll do that too :P

It's going to be great meeting everyone. I'm so looking forward to it.

Look out America, the pretentious Brit is on his way.
  • 2002-08-01 12:57:01 anneke - what if it's not true and it's not him making the joke?

I just think it's strange to be dragging him through the dirt based on this email because this seems to me to be the reaction that the email is designed to get out of you.

Don't get me wrong, I agree with what you are saying in a moral sense but I dont personally think it's going to be the best thing to talk about it based on this email in case it's got nothing to do with the con organisers at all.

If you can find out what's really going on then by all means shout it from the rooftops.
