  • Profile Image of the Week #10 2002-08-29 08:05:43 This week's image is simple - this guy likes to draw cute girls with swords, and that's fine by me.

kotonemaru - male artist and graduate from Kyoto, likes one piece and Lord of the Rings. Good stuff:

  • "do you think time would pass me by?" 2002-08-29 06:08:57 Who would have thought that there would be so many good videos in the Romance and Sentimental categories?

There's a couple of real gems - and the sad thing is that with these kinds of videos, they get forgotten about in favour of the impressive action and effects videos but to me some of these videos are more magic than a thousand Shamless Rocks and that's an understatement.

It's not to say I've enjoyed every video I've seen in the last day or so but there's been some that I've really really liked. What a great competiton, I hope the videos I've enjoyed get the praise they deserve.

I must find out who the creators are and congratulate them.

Drama is going to be a tricky category, mainly because many of the videos arent straight drama which complicates matters. I think categorisation is going to be the most difficult part. I know what the best vids are, but what category they are... I just don't know.

Anyway, I think I've already said too much about things that shouldn't be talked about. Looking forward to seeing how the nominations go - I hope all my faves get recognised.
  • "and I love you 'til my fountain pen runs dry." 2002-08-27 16:20:02 BIG announcement in the video software forum for those of you who only read it when you have a problem.

Premiere Plugin is fixed, both resize and colour bugs are now gone. There is now also a pack which will install all of the stuff in the right place so you are almost guaranteed to get avisynth files to work in premeire.

    cool huh? ^_^

Yeah, a bunch of us amv makers and amv fans have been getting proactive with source code and cool stuff happens. There are no limits to our imagination :)

In other news, I've been doing not a great deal. A friend brought his PC over for the weekend and we had a mini lan party with some co-op and classic UT gamage. It was good fun. The scenario rpg-type warcraft III maps were surprisingly fun.

AMV news? well, none really. Gratuitous Porn is getting lots of downloads but not many reviews. Everyone seems to be enjoying it though which is all that matters. It's not exactly the kind of video I care about critique :)

I'm looking forward to getting the AWA Pro tapes - there's going to be some great stuff on there I can tell. Looking forward to AWA too... man, I don't think I'm mentally prepared for AWA yet. It's going to be quite a meet :)
  • "I am human and I need to be loved, just like everybody else does" 2002-08-23 07:29:36 Last night was fun.

I decide to look at the source code for the buggy Avisynth Premiere Import Plugin. I had a look, checked the premiere SDK and thought "hey, you know this looks pretty easy".

Some theorising and discussions with Marco, ErMaC and my friend Tom we started reprogramming the plugin to see if we could fix the following bugs:

Black Screen Bug - caused by and inability to resize
Aspect Ratio Bug - not really a bug but something you have to manually fix because of the black screen bug
    Colourspace Bug - funky colours

In short, we've fixed the black screen bug. This is a massive breakthrough for this plugin as you can now see thumbnailed video on the timeline and in the motion settings - it all acts just like an avi file.

The aspect ratio is now fixed but is less important now that it can resize.

The colour bug is stil a mystery but we will work on that later.

The code still needs work but essentially we have cracked the nut on this avisynth plugin - it should be really easy for everyone to use and people who couldnt use it before should be able to now.

I'm also making a real installer that will install the plugin, avisynth and huffyuv in all the right places, is uninstallable and should mean that a simple install will allow people to do all the dvd import stuff written in the guides pretty easily.

    This is good news.

Don't ask for the plugin yet as we need to tidy up the script - it will take a little optimisation but hopefully phade will allow use to host the new installer on the org for everyone to use.

    :D

If anyone with programming talent is interested in the code, let me know.
  • Profile Image of the Week 9 2002-08-22 05:58:42 Not much to say about this guy's site except that it's got some very pretty art, even if it is total male fantasy stuff :)

    Grou's Graphic Prison: http://www.crazy.jp/~crazy/

I still can't get over the fact that he can call the stuff in the "junk" section "junk". Very nice work.

In other news, other than helping other folks out with their amvs and testing some encoding techniques I haven't been doing any video work. I'm calling a halt on all real editing until after AWA at which point I'll have a few comedy vids and one big massive serious project to do which will probably last me until next year :)

The ideas for an extension to the video guide are brewing and I think a new encoding guide coupled with a more thorough Avisynth guide and a guide to filters wil be much appreciated, so that's what me and Justin will be working on I think - plus some other stuff.

Other things that need doing are really only feasible if someone out there can program - so any programmers who want to look at some source code for bugs, please make yourself known :)
