JOURNAL: AbsoluteDestiny (Ian Roberts)

  • "hörst du nicht mein SOS/ LA, LA, LA, LA, CA USA!!!!" - thanks EK :D 2002-05-10 15:41:32 It's COMEDY LINK FRIDAY!!!!!

That's right, check these little gems out.

First of all, I must raise concerns about the presumptions made by Machintosh when advertising their eMac (nothing to do with our beloved ErMaC).

It's an educational machintosh - designed for schools:

    http://www.apple.com/education/emac/

Yes, yes... all very well - until you read this part:

"[it's made of] the same material used to manufacture bulletproof glass. So you can be sure that the eMac is strong enough for student use."

Are schools really getting that bad that they have to get bullet-proof computers :P

    Ahhhhh, joy.

    OK, more comedy links.

Well, even if you can't kill a Mac with a bullet, you can kill it with the power of.... DUN DUN DUNNNNNNN.....Celine Dion!!!

Right, I think it's time for a science lesson. Read some of this next article to get the general idea of the research...

    then read this and laugh:

Well, if that's got you in the mood - then how's about some sexy lingerie? OK, but only if you like to cross-dress:

Somehow, I don't think they mean't it to read like the guy is supposed to wear the basque.

    Yey.
  • "...it's tearing you asunder" 2002-05-08 16:52:09 I see EK's deserting us amv.org journalites for a blog ;-;

I did wonder why there was no longer 3 posts a day from Big-Big-Truck ^_^ I'm sure there'll still be some EK journal stuff going on but probably fewer informal entries about budget record stores and blue jeans.

btw, the new frontpage made me chuckle, EK. crazy fool.

    ;p

Ah, time for the rest of my Z-Mind review:

Well, it's nothing extraordinary but it was an enjoyable way to spend 3 hours. It was pretty generic stuff, and very strange seeing all the old 70's giant robot traits in a modern show. I don't regret buying it, especially considering you get all 6 eps of the OAV on one dvd.

I was expecting slightly higher production values (although they are not low by any means) but I think that's because I thought the show was a little newer than it is.

It's all pretty standard stuff. If you are a fan of this genre then you'd find it enjoyable, if not you may find it amusing and enjoyable or just not your thing. The ending was ok, if (again) predictable. It doesn't have any grandness, it's all very disposable but fun nonetheless.

I think one thing which I have to point out which disturbed me was the fact that the battle BGM was a total clone of The Final Countdown by Europe - right down to the horrible synthesiser. That kinda freaked me out. It wasn't quite as endearing as the use of the A-Team theme in Full Metal Panic.

Anyway, it was fun if not the best thing you could buy with your money.
  • "If I only could make a deal with god and get him to swap our places...." 2002-05-08 13:28:26 I'm utterly depressed today.

My search for employment is seemably endless and today I was given the most patronising offer ever.

    Work Experience.

I mean, that's what you do at 16. It's not what you do when you're a highly qualified 23 year old graduate who's trying to make ends meet.

The north east of england seriously sucks for jobs. I don't know how anyone gets a job round here... I've got a degree from the country's top university and one of the best universities in the world and all I can get is work experience.

So if anyone can offer a job to an english literature graduate and is willing to marry me so I can get a green card, please email me at haveajob@absolutedestiny.org

In other news, I've been watching Z-Mind today. A 1999 version of a 1970's mecha show... and it's not bad at all. The scary thing is, you'd be forgiven for thinking it was made in the 70's as the look is really retro, although some of the character designs are modern. It's reasonably tounge-in-cheek (although not quite Gekiganger III) and it's reasonably well executed for something so old-school.

I think the scary part is that I don't know how much of it is supposed to be comedy. Anyway, I'm half way through the show now (3 out of 6 oav eps) so will make my final judgements on the show later.

    Z-Mind!!!

    Swiiiiiiiitch On!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • "so la so la so la so la ti/ so la so la so la so la fa" 2002-05-07 07:59:33 Wined and dined last night.

Met up with a girl called Josephine, she's really sweet. Not sure if it will go any further but there's potential.

Anyway, enough of my love life, I'm more concerned about this fanmail that Dark Kamui gets... I mean, that is a *serious* amount of scary fanmail.

I love those yaoi DBZ pics too. heheheheh

I've had the odd rare email saying that someone appreciated my stuff and I've had a few kind emails lately thanking me for the audio guide, so that's cool. I'm not exactly what you'd call "high profile" though ^_^

I do get daily emails asking about yaoi porn though..... I guess that's my fault for distroing yaoi porn.

    Oh well ^_^

I'm really looking forward to getting these FLCL drama translations, although it's going to take some serious work to make an interesting picsub of them... the environments are too unique for the style that I used for the eva drama. Plus my Photoshop skills are a bit lacking... I think I might try using After Effects for it but After Effects scares me.

Hey, if anyone out ther wants to do a cover fanart for it though, I'd be very very happy to include it. I'll be making a distro cd with both the eva drama and the FLCL drama.

I'm working on a Kare Kano one too, but it's of a different sort, really so I think that will have to go on it's own.

Anyway, back to the AE manual -.-
  • "You can take a stand or you can compromise/ You can work real hard or just fantasize/ but you don't start livin till you realise...." 2002-05-05 16:57:35 EK: "like Mitsuru Adachi does wartime pinups." LOL!

Some pretty good cds there for 30 bucks, EK. I'm surprised you didn't have Actung Baby already... I guess it's one of those "Oh, I'll pick it up one day" albums.

Spiritualised... again, surprised. They were fun to interview, even when hung over.

"You can take a stand or you can compromise/ You can work rea
2 new Tom Waits albums out tomorrow. My wallet may have to hate me. I dunno... I might resist. I mean, how many gravelly voiced ballads do I need, in all honesty?

    *hand twitches towards credit card*

Marco: It's not that long now, she'll be over soon.

btw, I love Bogus Journey.... that whole end sequence is just poetry in motion .... it's so stupidly gratifying.

"and alls we can say is....

    LET'S ROCK!"

My isp is playing up... cant connect as much. That is non non-non-non non-heinous.

"I totally loogied on that good dead me!"
