Well that's the video officially on hold for the day.
Wanna know why?
I have a promo copy of the new Reel Big Fish album sitting in front of me. It doesn't come out till next month. Thank god for independant record stores.
mmmmm baby
It's good. Well, of course it's good, it's classic RBF. No in depth reviews yet but all I can say is tha album is called "cheer up" and it lives up to it's name.

One chorus left.... and I'm fresh out of ideas.
Once I get a plan, I can finish this video - I know how to do the rest but there's 10 second here that I'm just stumped on. I've already used every retro editing style in the book and there's none left... I don't think.
There's some minor possibilities. There's the coloured dancing circles thing from the 70s which I've never really liked and looks a bit too comic. There's the possible james bond opening pastiche but I don't think that will really work.
grrrrrrrr
I can't cut this chorus out either as it's the one that blend into the final crescendo. Evil.

MCWagner: I LOVE Hawk the Slayer... it's so terrible but yet so brilliant.
The best creative use of silly string in the history of filmmaking.
Not to mention one of the finest 80's cheese funk ever to grace the ears of man.
What a movie.

Thanks for the link, looks like some pretty useful stuff there.
I'm not really brave (or competent) enough to use AE yet. I'm just no good at it.
I've messed around with it and made some really cool lookin things but I'm just not comfortable using it. It has some things I'd really really like to do in premiere though.
I've only ever had access to a friends copy so I haven't really sat down a played with it much. I know it can do some awesome things, so maybe I'll try and learn it one of these days.
Actually, that reminds me, I said I'd learn AE by doing my FLCL picsub in it. That's the next project, I think - should have the translation soon.

A big shout to Tom Ford who has written the most amazing virtualdub plugin ever - all for me ^_^
I dunno if I've mentioned this before but when I first decided to do this FLCL video I asked my friend if it was possible to develop a filter that would be able to make footage psychadelic.
After throwing ideas around we finally came up with the idea of how it would work and Tom modified some of Donald Graft's virtualdub plugin code to make two filters: A Hue Cycle filter and a Luminance Band filter. We made these ages ago but I've only just got to the point in the vid where I can use them... and oh boy am I grateful.
The first one changes the hue of the image with time - the second one separated the image into individual bands and changes the colour of that band. Anyway, pictures speak louder than words - here's a section from the psychadelia part of my new video.

I'm really happy, this video is turning out exactly the way I imagined it.
In the words of George McFly, if you put your mind to it you can do anything.
As it happens, you can do this in AE too with a bit of work (and a lot of money, so that rules me out)
