Mike Shinoda on AMVs
2020-01-15 03:11:26
I've always wondered if Linkin Park was ever aware of the AMV community considering their music was used a lot in the early 2000s.

Rather nice that they appreciate the fandom instead of being appalled like so many other musicians. I don't recall them ever hitting people with copyright strikes back in the day. I mean, they did make an animated music video for "Breaking the Habit" that still holds up well today.
I miss making AMVs. Kind of dropped whatever AMV ideas I had since my last journal entry as I've lost the motivation to do them. Who knows, if Google miraculously unbans my original YouTube account, that might change. But I'm not holding my breath.

Memory Lane

*blows dust off account*
Man, it's been 8 long years since I last made an AMV. Time flies.
Since Google banned my account from YouTube in 2011, a lot of things have changed in terms of using copyrighted content. Back then, there was no way to appeal a ban if you made AMVs since you owned absolutely no rights to the visuals and music of an AMV. So AMV hobbyists like myself were pretty much screwed if our accounts got flagged by trolls.
But now, there's a lot of leeway with fair use and you can now submit copyright disputes with the argument of making promotional videos so at least AMV hobbyists can continue doing what they love. That said, I'm going to see if I can now appeal to get my original YouTube account unbanned and submit fair use disputes for all of my AMVs. It would be really nice to get all that back again. Granted I could rewatch all of my videos right here on AMV.org, but being able to see them again on YouTube is a nice step back in memory lane. I'm not going to hold out hope of ever getting my original account back, but I can at least try now that things are much better for AMV hobbyists. If Google does allow me to have my account back, I might consider messing around with some old AMV projects I've dropped since then. Could do much better now that I have Sony Vegas 14 compared to Windows Movie Maker back then (don't judge, I didn't have much choice without a job).

Well That's Just Preposterous
2011-01-08 03:32:03
Seems that I didn't remove enough AMVs from my YouTube account so Google has deemed it fit to terminate my account and instantly ban any account I try to make with my Google account. (Turns out you can't create a YouTube account without creating a Google account to bind it to. Ridiculous.)
So I guess the only way for my fans to view my videos is here. Although AMV.org is also heading southwards since more AMV artists would rather simply upload their videos to a streaming site like YouTube than use FTP. Which sucks, because the way AMV.org has things set up is wonderful for AMV artists. You can't view/stream the video from the site unless you create a AMV.org account. Otherwise, you're stuck downloading the video, which is better since you get to see the video in its original high-quality state rather than a buffered mess like what sites like YouTube does.
But alas, humans will be humans. :(
I won't stop making AMVs despite all that's happened, that's for sure. I'll keep making them and sharing them however I can until all modes of AMV sharing has been wiped from the Internet.

Interesting Statistics
2010-10-31 20:03:34
Was checking out my bandwidth usage on AMV and noticed something that struck me as odd.
As of this moment, my most downloaded videos are:
Zack & Aerith Video Preview (70 DLs)
At the Beginning (Cloud & Tifa) (23 DLs)
Memory of a Love That Once Was (15 DLs)
Pour Back the Sands of Time (14 DLs)
Famous Final Fantasy Couples (13 DLs)
The Older I Get (11 DLs)
Welcome to My Sanctuary (10 DLs)
Aozaora no Namida (Blue Sky Tears) (10 DLs)
Have a Little Faith (10 DLs)
70 downloads of a short preview video? O_O Either AMV has a glitch in their system or you guys really like a short preview of a video that I've already finished (Memory of a Love That Once Was).
Anyways...
I've got ideas for a couple of new videos that's in the works. One of them is actually a video that I've been working on for a few years now. Been waiting for footage of Crisis Core to come out for it and now that I have the footage I need, I've found myself not as motivated to finish it. No, it's not that I'm lazy or anything; it's just that, well, the biggest problem keeping me from finishing this particular video is that I've lost the original source file for it. Yeah, having to start over from scratch when I was halfway done sort of killed any interest I had in finishing it. << I don't know if I'll ever go back and redo everything so that's a pending project for now.
The second video is yet another Final Fantasy video starring my favorite Final Fantasy character (Zack) yet again. My AMV muse is very focused on Zack right now so sorry if you're starting to get sick of seeing him in my recent videos.

Long Overdue
2010-07-14 22:42:23
Wow, it's been a while since I last logged into this site, huh? o_o
So...
What happened was I had initially had my AMV files all hosted on FileFront. But after a year or so, I started receiving emails from FileFront saying that a large number of my videos were put on the deletion queue because of inactivity. Contrary to that, my videos did get regular downloads so I don't know where this accusation of inactivity came from. So I continued to take my videos out of the deletion queue to the point when FileFront simply stopped sending me warning emails altogether. I thought that would be the end of that, but I soon discover how wrong I was.
Upon logging into my FileFront account, I discovered that all but 5 of my previously 41 videos had been deleted without notice. Shocked as I was, I sent a polite email to FileFront asking why my videos were taken down. Three years passed and I still haven't gotten a reply in return. During that time, 4 more of my remaining videos were deleted (again, without notice). It was then that I finally decided to never use FileFront to host any file of mine ever again.
So then that brings me back to this site, where I remembered they allowed members to upload their videos. After learning how to do FTP (again), I went to work uploading my videos and now they're here for your enjoyment whenever you want. ^_^
Currently, I've got 2 new AMVs in progress, but I haven't been able to work on finishing either of them lately. I'm hoping to get at least one done by December, but we'll see how that pans out. Don't know if I'll be posting any new stuff to my YouTube account since I've been getting in trouble with Google there as of late.
