JOURNAL: madbunny

  • Spleen in the sky 2005-02-23 02:42:07 Well, the video is essentially finished. I'm going to give it a couple of days and see if I still like it since it has some 'quesionable effects' in it. I sort of liked the funky look that they gave it when I was making the video, but on the other hand they could also ruin the whole thing.

Compression on this one is turning into a battle of the.. somethings. It's a long 'song', and even though I cut off the last 20-30 seconds it still goes out over five min. Plus.. the beginning of the thing has those awful Beaudelaire lyrics in it. The man was like a cheap E.A.Poe, on moonshine.

I have to say, that after hearing this peice over and over and over and over.. during the editing cycle, I'm still struck with incredulity that any semi-sane person would commit to putting this on record. What the man must have been taking in the studio boggles my imagination.

So, I'll clean up my video, and wait for the flood of desperate uploads to the local to die down before putting my Spleen video online.
  • lookie, here, lookie there & Unholy video combos. 2005-02-18 01:02:30 Took my new woodshop class on a field trip to home depot today. It was interesting since they really didn't know what they were doing, and I'd gone out of my way to just give them a list of stuff they needed to get for the class. "where do we find X?" they would ask, and I'd tell them, find a home depot guy, or read the isles. So we get out wood, which turned out to be somewhat more of a task than I'd expected. You see, normally, if you don't like a particular peice of wood, you just chuck it to the back of the pile and keep looking for better peices. These guys didn't have quite the uh... muscle to do that, so it was a slow operation, with them moving stuff around.

Eventually we got everything and had to find some wood sealant. We're looking and again, I tell them "find a home depot guy" They are like "where are we going to do that?" meanwhile there is a home depot guy (older gentlemen maybe in his 50's) standing right next to us, listening to our conversation. We all stand there for a minute, I'm hoping they'll notice this guy standing right next to us. Finally the guy chimes in, "I can probably help you" to the students. They look at me. I tell them, "You need water seal for some picnic benches." They look at the home depot guy: "we need water seal for some picnic benches." He looks at me, I nod. He takes us over to the sealant, and every time he asks a question, like 'do you want stain, or clear', they look at me instead of answering. So I tell, them, 'clear'. They tell the guy "clear", he looks at me, I nod.

We get the sealant, and they guy stands there for a moment, and I ask them, "how are you going to get this sealant onto the benches?" They just look at each other, since I guess they figured you just dump the can over the wood or something. We all stand there for a minute and I ask them "what kind of brush do you plan on using?" "what kind of brush SHOULD we use" they ask the guy. They look at me, I look back at them, the home depot guy looks at me, I nod. Off we go again.

Great class. Of course, it's been a whole week, and the only thing that the class has managed to build so far has been ONE sawhorse that works. I can see that I've got a long way to go. But then, this is the sort of thing that I really excel at, and they don't have any real bad habits to 'unlearn' yet so that's a real plus.

    On other fronts:

I'm working on a new video, taken on a somewhat a whim. I heard what must have been the most horrible rendition of some music recently.. It's an old 70's album that I don't want to get into just yet.

My computer seems to be rebelling against the whole video. Now, mind you, I've been editing on it for days with nary a single glitch. Then I put in this unholy combination of videos and the computer starts to rebel. Must be just my luck.
  • ramblitude 2005-01-23 00:21:10 My payback ops are going along. I'm whittling away at them a couple a week. So if I owe you an op.. and you read this, and you actually rememeber that I owe you, it's eventually going to be done. Maybe six months from now... but eventually.

Ever get a what you think is a really good video idea, rip all the disks, prep the songs, set up your avs files... the whole nine yards, only to discover that it won't work?

Gah. I was going to do a Now and Then video, but the character that I need most for the video is the Mad King Hamdo, and he just isn't in the video as much as I thought. Figures.

Maybe I should stick to short little comedy bits.

In other news: my video class is dying a slow and painful death. I could invest some time and energy into the class at school but nobody seems to really care. That sucks, since I was looking at some student videos that have been produced in the class, and many of them are pretty good.

On the other hand there is LOTS of interest in my speaker building class that I'm setting up at school. Aparently the idea of being able to make your own speakers with enough power to crack the foundation of your house is appealing to many. I'm personally putting together a system that should blow the windows out at max volume. (twin 250W powered subs, midwoofers, 4 voice mids and some high end tweets, all in a tower configuration with independent power supplys.)

Oh cripes I'm all braindead tonight anyway. I just re-siliconed my aquarium, and have been breathing funky fumes all night long, so I'll think of something clever to say next time.
  • the long delay 2004-12-20 04:38:06 Cripes it's been a while.

Now I'm at least three dead projects down, after investing weeks of time on a trigun vid, I just can't find the parts I want to peice it all together. The inuyasha video, with the digital Michael Jackson for Naraku is soo hosed. Fuck, I hate that video now. I want to burn anything associated with it. Unfortunately I'd be out of a computer then.
The Kenshin vid to a country song? Feh, I'm tired of frame editing and filmstrip clean up. Another one down in flames.

On top of it all, I owe SOOO many video reviews it's really disheartening. Right when I was getting into the swing of things, making vids, leaving about four reviews a week (long ones too), everything went into the crapper, and work piled high. See the previous posts and you'll see what I mean.

I have some vacation time, maybe I'll crank out 15 or twenty ops, then should be about 40% of what I owe.

  • Letters to the void. 2004-10-26 00:29:50 for those of you who follow my entries, and forum posts, you'll notice that about three weeks ago there was an abrupt stop.

Well turns out that my mother died right about that time. You know that thing about death, is that all the stuff you hear about 'going on to a better place' and all of that really doesn't mean a lot. My mother died alone, in pain, in a house with no electricity.

We haven't spoken for years, due to a falling out some time ago. She'd sent me a letter, just a postcard really, all it said on it was "I think of you every day." Well, I sent her back a box of pictures of what I've been doing over the years. She had never met my wife, and hadn't seen me for over ten years. She was found with the pictures in her lap.

Sometimes, you don't get a chance to say goodbye. You don't get a chance to go back in time and fix the mistakes of the past. The pain that we carry is part of what defines us as people. All the good and bad of everyone that we have ever met plays a small part in what makes us who we are.

So for you guys that have been waiting for video reviews, I'm sorry. I'll get back to it before too long, but my heart hasn't been in it for a little while. I have all your pages bookmarked and whatnot.
