bread - Dead computers - and ... offroad at AX?

I was driving home a few days ago, just sort of zoning out.
At some point I saw a bread truck. You know, one of those delivery trucks with pictres of pastry on the side.
Bread. Bread. I found myself wondering, "why does the word bread, have an 'a' in it?"
Indeed, why should it? What's the point of creating words with silent letters? Yeah, I know lots of stuff is borrowed from other languages, but so what. There are silent letters in those languages too. So... why? That's like having computer code with sections that are skipped 'just for the hell of it'.

In other news, my computer at work, with years of stuff on it died about a week ago. instead of panicking, I grabbed one of my new builds (I have my students build new computers using parts ordered off of newegg.com). So now I have a computer on my desk with green and red neon blazing through the window and a bright blue beacon on the front.
On top of that, I have to move my entire computer lab over to another building sometime next week, set it up and get the entire school up and running on the intranet, internet and various secured and unsecured networks including two wireless setups. Remember when vacation meant that you had time off?

I'm going to Pismo beach on July 1st. I'm gonna go out and tear up some dunes on a quadrunner. Loads of fun. Manly and stuff. The problem is that I didn't realize that that's the same weekend as AX. Fuuuuuuck. Maybe I'll still go. Maybe I'll still go to the meet & greet. -
vegas video - After Effects - Jaddziadax

Things might be looking up for the summer session.
On monday, one of the students came up to me and asked if I'd ever heard of a program called "Vegas Video", or those things called "Anime Music Videos". (seriously). He tells me that he's been editing using downloaded stuff at home on Vegas Video and wondered, me being the computer guy and all, if I could take a look at his stuff.
eheh....heh...hehehe... I think I got that angle covered.
Another student looked like he was about to 'gasm when he discovered that I have After Effects on all the editing systems (that would be my entire comptuter lab). Now I have to brush up so I can show him some masking stuff. The really scary thing about this guy is that he showed me a copy of one of Mr Oni's videos.
Mr Oni, you are officially perverting the youth of American now. I hope you're proud. At least it wasn't moneyshot by MJ.

Jaddzia, I liked your videos, they made me laugh. I wonder at tall the myspace pervs though. Is it alright for them to worship you as their new goddess?

Graduation time approaches.
Next week, in fact.
Normally this is a time of private reflection, introspective looks at life and the cycle of learning. Not all of my students will succeed. Not all of my students will in fact remember anything at all that I've been trying to teach them. Some students that I absolutely despise will do well simply because they have rich parents, or well connected families, while the poor, earnest ones will be stuck in a dead end job or trapped taking care of their disfuctional families in the project housing district.
But you know what? This time around.. this particular graduation...
I don't really give a shit. seriously, most all of the people that are graduating this time around are assholes. By and large I dont' give two farts for what happens to them. They are gang members, drug users and dealers, and general assholes. I can't see how they managed to get enough credits to pass in the first place. Most of them are only able to pass because they have an exemption on the California Exit Exam. I'd bet money that teachers just gave them passing grades to get them out of class.

In other news, my Anime and Video club has died out. All the students that used to be in my classroom watching all the latest episodes of anime, and or making music videos have gone on to better schools, leaving me with people that think computers exist soley for them to check myspace email and play flash games. I think I'll disable the internet for the first half of summer just to piss them off. -

One week left till graduation, and I move all my stuff out of the computer lab into a new one. It's kind of a downgrade so I'm not looking forward to the move, but on the bright side of things I shouldn't have to share the room with other teachers any more. That always pisses me off. - @ jaddziadax 2006-05-25 10:52:58 I used to work on that show (Next Gen and DS9), all this talk reminded me of that. I wonder if I have any props left?
