The issues with the Firewire case appear to be purely temperature related. Until I have money (JPY3000 in this case) the best I can do is run the thing with the lid off a particular distance from the aircon when it's in cool mode. ^_^
(The case, I discovered, is rated for 5400 rpm drives only. The IBM is 7200 rpm...)
A completely unexpected video turned out to be my first one with the new setup. Kiki's Delivery Service, set to... um... an odd song.

... says about all of it, really. One wouldn't think that an external Firewire enclosure for an IDE drive would be so easy to get wrong. Some manufacturer with the temerity to complain about the language of the host o/s yet which doesn't actually *require* drivers to work (it seems), called Century, nevertheless managed it. Success under W2K is unreliable, Linux nonexistent, and I've got 60GB of data to clear off to CD before I can use it.
Still, it's been far too long since I put together a video or three.
