  • GOOD JOB TO ME v. 2 2008-09-07 19:27:47 Takeout is quite close to being done. Fixing/creating/adjusting tons of tiny little things has taken me almost 30 hours, I figure. Ridiculous, I know, but if I'm going to make an AMV, gosh darnit I will do it right to the best of my abilities! Along those lines, today I realized that I probably cursed myself a few months back when I said it was kind of funny that - me being such a big proponent of using the pen tool for masking/masking in general - I'd never really created an AMV that showcased any of that.

Well...now I have and I can honestly say that I hope my future AMV projects, if there are any, do not involve this much masking/rotoscoping/whatever you want to call it, because it's taken me almost as long to do all of this as it did to put the whole AMV together in the first place. And I'm not slow at masking, either, so I can just imagine how much worse it would be if I didn't know what I was doing. :|

Now I just have to worry about some synch, attempt a few special effects I'm dreading, request permission to use the names of certain individuals and then suck it up. make a con entry out of Takeout and then create intro/outro bumpers. I've got...three weeks left!!! EEEE!!!

Also, two banners to my name. Yay!
  • Another naughty journal post, this time for the public good. 2008-08-31 20:22:46 After spending months creating masks in Photoshop my own way, a deviation from the norm, if you will, it occurred to me that not only was it faster and better than the old way, it was easier.

So I'm having meleechampion test it out, because he says if HE can do it, anyone can do it., and he would like me to use this as an advertising ploy. :E

Other guinea pigs are welcome, however, because I'd like to know if this really does work as well as I think it does and whether it's worth posting in the forums as an updated Photoshop masking method.

Yes, it involves the pen tool.
  • Mkay, this is a little pat on the head for myself...then I'm going underground again! 2008-08-24 19:00:48 I was a good girl this weekend. I put in approximately (ouch) 14 hours of editing over the course of two days. Not quite a record, for me, but a massive improvement over my recent track record of:

    *sits down to work*

*fifteen minutes later* "I don't want to do this right now. I'll...um...wash the kitchen floor/do the dishes/play with the dog/read a book/weed the garden/wander aimlesslessly avoiding eye contact with my computer."

And this on what turned out to be the most gorgeous weekend of the entire summer. How's that for commitment? Or just insanity?

I've given up keeping a tally of how many hours I've spent on Takeout. It's probably around 70, right now. I spent pretty much the entire weekend tackling some of the make-it-or-break-it details I was putting off until the last minute and man...now I know why I didn't do that with 'Bustin (though, to be fair, I couldn't have anyways). There is something to be said for not doing one's funny sauce over and over umpteen times, but there's also something to be said for getting the groundwork laid as one goes along.

Nine hours of straight masking, today, totalling a whopping of 40 frames fundamentally altered. Twenty-two of these frames. I'm hoping, are going to make people sit up and say "OMG she did NOT!!!" Yeap, *dusts off mousepad* I certainly did. And what a pain in the butt it was, too. But hey, the worst part is done. Regular rotoscoping is a walk in the park compared to what I did today. And I was rushing, too...hey, it's on screen for less than a second. I'm not going to turn every frame into a piece of art. I already caught the animators cheating on THEIR end and had to cover up THEIR mess...and I didn't have to, but I knew if I didn't, someone would assume it was my mess and we just can't have that, now can we?

Right now I would kill for a chiropractor. My back is murdering me.

So, erm, yeah, if I keep up this pace, Takeout should be done by the end of September. Doing all this fancy masking and stuff is taking my mind off the very mundane problems it actually has in abundance. hehe... :|

Meanwhile, I'm coming up on my faux-AMV editor one-year anniversary, namely the day I released my first (finished) AMV. Hard to believe how much has happened AMV-wise over the last 12 months, certainly more than I ever imagined. It'll be a long time before I forget what it felt like to make Sephiration Anxiety, that's for sure.
  • I am so... -_- all I can come up with is -_- 2008-08-18 20:21:00 I'm an extremely laid back person, too laid back, some would say. In the past few weeks, though, things at home, things at work, things all over the place are putting on the screws. It's like I can FEEL my blood pressure going through the roof at least five times a day, which is something that simply does NOT happen to me.

    SO LET'S WRAP UP:

    ...

No, because that'll make me feel like punching something even more.

Anyways. Deal is I don't do anything AMVish (except this) until Takeout is done. I forced myself to get over how frustrated/aggravated I am with it and spent about six hours (should have been 12) on the weekend ripping it apart...and then putting it all back together again, because it's just not worth it at this point to start all over. Not to me, anyways. New goal is to just make what's already there as palatable as possible and call it a day. May take a mega break from all things AMV after that, maybe a permanent one.

Learned today that 'Bustin was apparently shown at Ani-Magic, a big con in Germany. Getting quite well-traveled, isn't it? What's next - Antarctica?
  • I sincerely hope I don't get sued...or cause Otakon to get sued..or whatever. 2008-08-13 20:27:40 The brouhaha surrounding the removal of the trailer/parody category at Otakon didn't seem to have anything to do with me (and it doesn't)...except...well... apparently the Otakon lawyer who got cold feet about some trademarks appearing in some AMVs never saw 'Bustin, which - as I understand it - was shown during the Iron Editor event (really awesome, but again, I wish people would tell me these things!!).

Why might the lawyer have had a fit over my AMV being displayed? Because 'Bustin not only parodies at least half a dozen trademarks, it uses at least one one real one (as in, I didn't remake it/change it slightly, it's the REAL trademark) AND rips off well-known, signature "looks" of certain publications. Heck, one could say I also plagiarized the Dirge of Cerberus "TNN" news screen to a certain extent - I certainly recreated those logos to exacting standards. Is Square Enix going to sue me for copying a non-trademarked logo which appears in their trademarked game? (eee!!!).

...and things devolve from there. *sweatdrop* This issue never even occurred to me when I made that AMV. :|

I wonder if I should bring this potential Otakon problem to someone's attention, just so they can then say they're aware of it if anyone lawyerish DOES make a fuss...who was in charge of showing videos during Iron Editor? Vic?

Why do these things always happen to ME?????? And what the heck is going to happen if I feature other copyrighted material in a video? Would it get DQed from a competition? Would it get other people in trouble if it wasn't DQed and then some lawyer person made a fuss? This REALLY puts a huge question mark in front of one of my grand plans for 2009!!

The AMV Gods, obviously, still have it in for me big time.
