JOURNAL: DriftRoot (Lauren C.)

  • Spam like, eggs in my e-mail account? 2008-11-14 10:15:35 "The intruder then used our server to spam spam spam and more spam."

The spam in the e-mail account I originally used to sign up here went through the roof in the past day or two. Coincidence? If it's not, then that certainly explains what happened. I'd been happily spam free for about six months straight and then WHAM - so I knew something must have happened somewhere.

And if it is coincidence, then I also want to know why I got a letter in the mail from some company I never heard of claiming my credit card was not compromised and they're closing my account. :| Yes, I said "not compromised and they're closing my account." They also directed me to cut up my card b/c they're sending me a new one. Good luck with that one, schmucks.
  • :| hey... 2008-11-13 18:52:04 The site just ate a rather large journal post. Which may be a good thing, because I was using it to blow off a lot of steam about corporate...shenanigans. I have to write this stuff down, you see, because it's just too mind-bogglingly unbelievable, otherwise. Even I have a hard time believing until I just lay it all out. I wish I'd kept a record of all the insanity, actually, because I could probably write a bestseller or something with it.

Anyways, add journal eating to the list of things that are kind of screwy around here...although I would hazard a guess that if the forums are down and the downloads are down, then the screwiness level is the lowest it's ever been in the entire history of AMV.org.

  • Hewaa? 2008-11-11 21:13:21 First journal post on new server?

I don't know, but I can't get into the forums yet.

At least I "got" to fight with my own Web site all night. Dial-up...is a bad thing, however at least this way I am confronted with the harsh realities of page load times. <---bad

ALSO!! *thumbs up to new server* I'd like to feel my $75 donation was well spent.
  • I need help with my finances 2008-11-09 18:43:58 Here's how I'm weighing my expenses:

    1. Pay off student loan - $1,546
    2. PS3 (and games) - $500
    3. New tires - $240
    4. New glasses - $175
    5. Anime Boston - $200-$700
    7. Updated computer software - $800

I can't think of anything else I want to spend money on, but don't necessary NEED to spend money on in the next eight months. Still, that's a lot of money. Oh yeah, and...

    8. New Car - $15,000+

    XD

lol my dog is dreaming and she's making little woofing sounds. I've always wanted to know what she dreams about. It fascinates me that, someday, "they" will probably be able to recreate dreams in our conscious minds. It's rather frightening, too, of course. But still...what does a corgi dream about? Do I want to know?

And what's with this silly League of Extraordinary Gentlemen movie? It's like bad anime. Oh wait, it's based on a graphic novel...how silly of me. HEY!! It's using the same font I'm using on MY Web site! Weird stuff like this always happens to me. :|

Web site update: After completely screwing up two of my main pages, I'm actually getting somewhere. Next: find out what happens when I attempt to upload it...via dial-up. :( You see, even if I'm not unhappily slaving away on an AMV, I'm still unhappily slaving away at SOMETHING. I asked myself several times today whether I'd rather work on my Web site than an AMV...and I still honestly don't know the answer. This is not good, because I know and am far more comfortable with video editing than HTML, which I'm basically learning by doing everything wrong. Actually, that's how I learned video editing, too...hrm. On the other hand, I haven't devolved into cleaning my apartment, which used to happen all the time when I was supposed to be working on an AMV. Drat.
  • I wonder 2008-11-09 13:49:44 What's the average, in terms of downloads on videos relative to stars left on them? Is it 2:3? 1:2? 4:7? Is there an average at all? It must depend somewhat on how many downloads there are and how long a video has been around, although I don't know if that also is an across-the-board figure.

That would be a bundle of interesting .ORG statistics. Why am I so interested in stats, lately? It must be the election...

*Deletes lengthy commentary on election* I'm being PC again...but this time it's because I just don't want to be bothered. I have a lot to say about a lot of things that often raise a lot of eyebrows, but there comes a point when I realize that while I enjoy analyzing and debating matters for the sake of it, most other people don't and they take it the wrong way, so it's just not a good thing for me to start.
