  • *sigh* 2008-12-29 09:52:01 Footlose AMV (no title yet, although I predict I will by default start calling it "Vent" and, just like with 'Bustin, that lame, stand-in title will wind up being the title)
    Pre-edit: 2 hours
Edit: Technically I've already spent four hours or so on early prototyping (which was a pain in the BUTT and now I have to do it all over again??), but non-technically this AMV doesn't exist yet. Oh well.

The Good: It's nice to sit down and work on an AMV with a smile on my face.

The Bad: I deliberately avoided watching Advent Children before I ripped the DVD, because the last time I watched it my reaction was "Man...I do not EVER want to make another AMV out of AC." I'm foolishly hoping that if I ignore the editing challenges AC presents, they'll go away. HA. I also need to find where I put my Dirge of Cerberus footage...for some reason it's not on my HD. :|

The Ugly: I just spent about 30 seconds trying to come up with something good about working with AC...and couldn't. Um...how about: one doesn't *have* to clean up the footage. No, that doesn't work, because I've gotten low scores for AC footage that's as good if not better than the original! *muffles rant* Um... I get almost visceral satisfaction out of closing my imaginary hand around AC's throat and squeezing. Hard.

I'll be the first to admit "Vent" is just going to be a series of progressively tighter squeezes. Nothing spectacular, nothing even that original. I've kind of given up making the AB April 1 deadline and really even making it a con-friendly AMV. If I'm going to make AMVs, they are going to have to be videos I enjoy making (which is hilarious, given how much I complain about the process) and that means they may never again be con-friendly. Best I can hope for with this one is that it's finished enough in some way, shape or form to send it off to AB, and then I'll have two more months to put on the polish. I still don't think it's going to be done in time, though. Oh well, I can always maybe enter it next year.
  • I'm on vacation! 2008-12-27 09:51:58 I've got my PC hooked up to a cable modem... ah the joy of downloading a 40mb AMV in 28.5 seconds. THIS is living.

So of course I'm excessively pleased that a download queue arrived just in time for me to go nuts downloading all sorts of videos that I haven't been able to see. The best part is that I got a 24" HD PC monitor for Christmas to watch it all on!! My computer system on all levels now officially backhands my TV and sends it facedown into the mud.

I got the impression that I was given the monitor in part to help out with my AMVing, though...which makes me feel extremely nervous and, in general, "Man, I've got to make another AMV on this thing or I'm going to be in trouble." @_@

My PC was lugged with me so I can try and work on it this week, though. I figure if I can get even 20 hours of work done, that's equal to 2-4 weeks of non-vacation work. Yay. I get to rip and clip Advent Children...for the...fifth - no - probably ninth time. -_- Yee ha.

Happy New Year to Everyone. I hope 2009 brings us all the best!
  • 4.5 hours until I'm on vacation! 2008-12-22 12:29:32 Alternative Gankutsuou AMV (no title yet):
    Pre-edit: 10
    Edit: 7

Wow, a whopping seven hours. I'm on a roll, huh? Not. It crossed my mind this weekend that I'm slightly crazy to make an AMV for Anime Boston - aka the only AMV I'm likely to submit to a competition for the next year - that isn't showcasing anything I'm good at.

Rebuttal: I sent 'Bustin to AB in 2008 without having ever made that sort of AMV before. In fact, I sent it there having only made one AMV before.

Rebuttal redux: But I'm well aware of my own editorial shortcomings, which I make a habit of attempting to cover up or make up for in creative ways. There's nothing to save me, as it were, with this Gankutsuou thing. Or rather, there could be, but ironically enough I'm a big follower of the school of thought that says if your concept and editing style are solid, you can turn out a fantastic AMV without lots of fluffy extras piled on top to make it look (theoretically) prettier/more impressive. What would save me in this instance is a lot of fluffy stuff.

Rebuttal redux et al: I probably don't have time to make the flagrant abuse of Advent Children that is my Footloose AMV in time for April 1. (Why does the deadline have to be two months before the con? Why can't it be May 1??) So settling for something tamer and more generic is not a bad idea.

Rebuttal redux et al finis: I do not like "settling" for anything. Particularly when it comes to my AMVs!!!

lol I'm going to end up going with the Footloose thing, I just know it. I'm nuts. It probably won't even come out that good. LOL
  • I have proof we're in a recession! 2008-12-20 18:45:57 Tony's Pizza shrunk their pizzas. I'm not kidding. I thought they looked a little smaller, these past few weeks (I buy one every week as my "bad" food): smaller, fewer pepperoni...and this one I've got here has less cheese on it, because there's a crust and there is not supposed to be a crust on my frozen pizza.

How DARE they shrink my pizza!

    *blip*

@_@ Someone on match.com just sent me an IM. Save meeee!!! This site is slightly addicting, though. It's like...that perfect someone could be one click away, so you have to keep clicking. I have to admit, almost every time I find myself hesitating over something questionable in someone's profile, I remember that it's rather unlikely they're more questionable than I am. And I look like such a nice, girl, too. :E

Maybe I should post a photo of me surrounded by my anime/manga/video game accoutrements to dispel any notion of normalcy? Nah...I'd have to rearrange my living room.

    *blip*

Whomever the guy was who IMed me...he ditched me. -_- What the heck? All I said when he asked if I was around was "my dial-up connection has decided it doesn't like match.com." What's wrong with that?! Gahhh!!
  • XD What does this tell you about anime geeks? 2008-12-18 19:53:26 After perusing match.com for a few days and being incredibly disheartened by the guys it's recommending for me, I finally got the bright idea to do a search on "anime." About 30 people in the appropriate age range came up in the New England area, and they are more interesting (and better looking) than most of the other guys match.com's been recommending for me. I'd say "what's the catch?" but I think the "catch" is that they're into anime. LOL

Why do all the guys want to hook up with someone within 30 miles, though? Don't they realize how many potential perfect lifemates they're possibly missing out on? Jeez...

This whole match.com debacle is going to provide me with hilarity for months on end, just the thing I need to distract me from my abysmal AMV progress. ^_^
